Skipping villains, since I feel like you're supposed to hate them?
I was not sad to see Minfillia go. Getting called back the Waking Sands over and over and over... just to be sent another place... Like girl, just tell me where you want me to actually go via link pearl. And none of that "The Garleans can hack the link pearls" bull crap, it's not like sending me to go help Tataru make tea is a state secret!!
Lyse has been kind of a roller coaster for me. Through 2.x she was okay, nothing I found too obnoxious. But then we get the whole ass pull dead sister thing to suddenly bring her into the spotlight, and honestly I could not care less about saving Ala Mihgo, so the wind-up pre-Stormblood had me cringing. Over the course of Stormblood, seeing her grow up a little kind of brought her around for me... but then 4.1 kicked her right back into "Ugh, not her again" territory, with the whole overly wide-eyed idealism and "We'll rule Ala Mihgo with the power of friendship." I get the whole thing about Ala Mihgo not wanting another crazy king, but doing all this build-up on Lyse's character, including her dramatic leaving of the Scions, only to have her not actually end up the ruler of Ala Mihgo just feels like a waste. Not to mention I liked the dynamic that was established between her and Hien in 4.0, so I was hoping it might lead up to an "new rulers of former Garlean territories ally to kick some ass" and it doesn't seem like it's going to end up that way after 4.1. Boo.
But my true least favorite character is probably Yugiri. I was all hyped to like her--female Au Ra ninja, okay, cool--but... she's just so boring? Her voice acting is so unmemorable, her face makes me feel depressed just looking at it, and the extent of her contribution in Stormblood was basically walking into a trap because she suddenly got a hold of the idiot ball and decided to go for broke. I really hate when it's female characters who get subjected to the "my emotions overcame me" trope. Ick, pass. Not to mention, there are just too many other more interesting candidates (Cirina, Lyse) for me to buy much into Yugiri's bodyguard crush on Hien, which is the only other thing I got out of her scenes in Stormblood. I'm sure my hate for her is irrational, but I just don't see the need for this character all. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I thought long and hard and decided on the Griffin.
True, there are many annoying NPCs; but they ultimately had little impact on the grand scale of things and can be annihilated anytime the WoL wishes if it is not for the narrative (i.e., that damn lalafell who follows the griffin but has not yet resurfaced, Hildibrand and his gang which are completely optional, etc. )
But the griffin dragged us to a fricking war that nobody needed because his sorry ass was too weak to win on his own. Even his ultimate primal was pretty much put down the moment it popped up.
Big panda is an awesome bear!

Estinien alongside pretty much every single god damned lala NPC in the game.
If i had to pick someone to be at the very top of my hatred list, it's Tataru.
Go to hell, Tataru.

Lyse and Minfillia, and for nearly the exact same reasons to be perfectly frank. They're both written to be 'strong' or at least the narrative is written in such a way that makes it clear that's how the writers want us to perceive them; and yet they're both anything but. Minfillia at the very least is acknowledged as 'waifu' bait and shunted off screen as of this current patch cycle, but Lyse has all the hallmarks of a strong character while constantly being undermined. They both come off as cognitively dissonant characters. Minfillia supposedly the most useful of the Scions who still doesn't know what a linkpearl is bloody used for; and Lyse who literally has all her character defining moments legitimately stolen or retracted for the sake of the plot. I cannot stand characters who regress in intelligence or worth simply because the plot demands it, and they both are constant offenders of this in spite of the story /never/ acknowledging it.
Lyse especially is a dual offender in this regard. Her story arc during the Steppes was interesting and you could see the beginnings of growth slowly taking root, and yet all of it was retracted the second we shifted focus back to Ala Mhigo. Suddenly she was the leader of the Resistance for little more reason than she /had/ no reason, aside from plot convenience; and yet not two missions later she was regulated back to a common foot soldier once the invasion took place. Thancred, Raubahn, and even /Pippin/ and /HIEN/ were more pivotal to the reclamation of Ala Mhigo than she was. Hell she was taking orders /FROM/ Raubahn instead of collaborating with him like an equal. It just left one hella bad taste in my mouth when after Shinryu was beaten she strutted around like she was hot shit when she literally did /nothing/; just followed the Warrior of Light around like a lost puppy.
I also quite hate the fact that I've encountered no small amount of backlash for pointing these things out either. I've been called misogynistic for not worshiping the ground either of them walk upon and it's done little to help my hatred. I love strong characters and can even appreciate weak ones, but I /cannot/ stand characters who I'm told are strong but the writing makes them anything but regardless of their gender.

You could always just respond with "If I'm misogynistic, why am I playing as a girl?"
Besides, anyone who goes right for the "You're just sexist/racist/homophobic/anto-whatever-religion" card the moment you criticize a character, odds are that person isn't worth listening to.

Or, my favorite, 'wait so do I hate myself if I hate all women?! HAS MY LIFE BEEN A ONE GIANT LIE?!'You could always just respond with "If I'm misogynistic, why am I playing as a girl?"

And nah, I'm pretty much of that mind as well. It just annoys me when it happens.

I have been called misogynistic too for calling out a good portion of the female characters in this game being absolutely infuriatingly bad, especially in Stormblood. Lyse, Yotsuyu, Fordola, Cirina, and Yugiri... They are all just really, really bad characters. I hate that I hate almost every single female in SB but they keep trying to waifu them all, even when they are awful people, and it is obvious and obnoxious.I also quite hate the fact that I've encountered no small amount of backlash for pointing these things out either. But overall, my least favorite characters are Zenos, Lyse, Minfilia, and Geva (the god damn leatherworkers guild master).
