    GC rank up...

    I honestly believe that to rank up we should undertake some type of quest or mission instead of just paying for a new rank with seals...I do understand that this is a game and should be removed from realism as much as possible...but I do think that some things should reflect real life to a certain degree...in the real world military we use our pay to buy new gear and or equipment to be able to continue doing our job...we get promoted to a new rank after a certain time and after performing certain test to determine if we are ready for the new rank...

    There are a ton of quests from Recruit->Enlistee and then a quest from Enlistee->Petty officer. That's fine with me, moving from PTC/PSC/PFC with seals. If this continues through the higher ranks, though, it'll be pretty boring. :/ To get higher in military ranks, you should really have to do something, and impress someone.

    Yea there are different quest between the ranks...but there should still be a show and prove for the next higher rank...also I think SE could consider tweeking the ranking structure...Petty Officers are naval ranks...Coporals and Privates and Sergeants are Army and Marine Corps ranks...

    I noticed that too. You might want to post this in Localisation--they're pretty good about taking care of these things. I have a military family but I've never been a military person, so I didn't want to say something only to get smacked down. xD

    In any case, I totally agree with you on all points, I was just saying that making it through the private ranks was generally not a big deal, and that not having quests for them was alright--it's kind of like trading crystals to skip FFXI missions, except without the missions as an alternative. "Seals" are kind of only useful for ranking up, aside from some fugly armor. But really, if they release new ranks that they "sell" for GC, I'll be really bummed. You shouldn't be able to "buy" the next rank, even if the currency is given as a measure of dedication and service.

    Just my thoughts. >.>;

    I'm pretty sure that if you did nothing but GC quests for seals, and did them all, you could afford your personal Chocobo and still have 7000 seals left over to reach Sergeant 3rd class, the current cap.

    The catch is, people spent seals on other stuff too, that's where the extra tasks are for- to close the gap.

    I think this might shed some better light on how they're going about it. You also have to remember that the term "petty officer" does, in fact, apply to the Maelstrom at least (as they're principally a naval force with ground troops).
