A few things have me puzzled... lore book suggests Jalzahn came over to Eorzea strictly to help the warrior of light with their relic. Jalzahn states ingame that he came over after hearing his invention, the thavnairian mist, was being used by adventurers to augment their weapons. That doesn't seem so difficult there, but I'll get to it. During the kettle to the mettle questline, it is suggested that Jalzahn came over two years prior, when gerolt was issued an order for a kettle. The problem with this is, well, intent. If he came over specifically for the relic, well, we weren't around by the time he got there, if he did indeed come over because others were using the thavnairian mist, well, I could understand that.

But then we slip into a few issues with the rest of the timeline, things like Hien stating doma fell 25 years ago, noted as 1552 in the lore book, which would still make it 1577 , the very year ARR started. You've got the timeline of yda's death at the end of 3.55 taking place at a specific year, if we're still assuming 1577 to be the current year, coincides with a circle of knowing raid on gyr abania, where, in fleeing with several refugees, saw them lose some of their numbers, assumedly Yda being one of them. That said, if such timeline is true, it is stated she fell in 1571, the timeline even placing it right before the start of 1.0 (which is said to have taken one full year, 1571-1572) So why then, does she ask you about certain things that Yda would have done? I mean, let's leave aside the whole part where she starts SB as wanting to be her own person, then ends 4.0 with her sister's dress... and then here we are, almost 4.2, with her still trying to keep her sister's memory about. She's so wishy-washy that it's painful.

My favorite little tidbit, was where the lore book suggests how long it takes to sail from limsa to specific locations, roughly putting travel to Kugane to be about 16 days, the character creator suggests 32 days to each eorzean month. Okay... so right after the battle with O4N, Cid states he wants to keep an eye on Omega's actions as well as those of his new coworker, Nero. And then we catch him having a little chitchat with two kids out in kugane. I understand that they were the children of a dear friend of his, presumably, however, you've got to understand the risk that Omega presents, and what he fears Nero capable of, and even if you suggest that ceruleum engines shorten the roundtrip, vis a vis our little conversation between tataru and our... guide to Kugane the first time around, it still suggests a roundtrip of roughly a month... Can anyone help me with this?

This topic should probably go in the Lore Forum, since that's where all the people interested in lore hang out.

But the long and short of all time-related shenanigans is the Official Word is that the entire game from 2.0 is taking place within the same year, in a Simpson's-style time bubble.

Yes, I know it makes less and less sense the longer the MSQ gets, but until someone officially tells us otherwise, that's the 'canon' we have to work with. (Though personally I prefer to think of the MSQ having taken place in more-or-less 'real time', since that leaves plenty of downtime between disasters for the WoL to take on time-consuming sidequests like raiding and catching one of every fish in Eorzea).

Cid bouncing between continents probably isn't as big a deal as you might think, though, considering he owns an airship and it would take significantly less time to fly than it would to travel by sea.
