    PS4 Unable to download patch files [20502][10009]

    This isn't for me, but I'm posting it because I'm trying to get my sister to play FFXIV but it will not download. She can't post in the forums herself because she does not have a character (obviously). She instead gets this error message:

    PS4 Unable to download patch files [20502][10009]

    We spent the past three days searching the internet for solution, only quitting after hours of trying because, as you can imagine, failing this many times is stressful. The only thing that was successful was using her phone as a hotspot (metropcs), but that quickly failed because, as I was afraid of, she ran out of data before she even made a dent in the download.

    We tried everything, from trying the google and verison DNS as one forum suggested (and other ones too that a site had a master list of), deleting and redownloading, trying to sign out and in again, restarting the ps4, and connecting the ps4 to the modem with an ethernet cable.

    The only other thing I could think of is changing her internet service provider, but she will not do that for a game she never played, especially since her apartment complex pays for the internet she has. Even if she was willing to, she's only working part time, free internet is the best internet for people working part time.

    I told her I am willing to pay for her next sub like I payed for the game if it finally starts working when she's almost out of sub time, but I am not going to pay a sub for something that doesn't work.

    This error designates a connection error, so there is something with her connection that is interfering with the game (which would explain why her phone's data was able to start the download). It looks like you've tried a lot of the things that we would normally suggest, however you didn't mention port forwarding so I would suggest going that a try.

    Check the following Port Ranges on your router/modem to ensure that the following Port Ranges have been opened/forwarded/triggered:

    ▼TCP
    54992 through 54994,
    55006 through 55007,
    55021 through 55040
    *This can be done by visiting www.portforward.com, locate your specific Router/Modem Brand and Model Number from the 'List of Routers', and you will find a step-by-step guide on how to access your ports.

    You can also try to download the game using a different internet connection. Take her PS4 to a different location and try to download the game there.
