Could we get some small sort of PvP before 2.0? Dueling maybe?

Just a request to see if we can get "at least" the ability to duel before 2.0 comes out. I don't imagine a duel system would be too difficult to introduce.

A PvP system implemented in FFXIV (even if only dueling, and even if unbalanced) would create more content than initially assumed. Certain gear not currently deemed "good" would become useful. This in turn, would stimulate additional parts of the economy for crafted items making more items useful. Food, potions, and other consumables might actually get used if deemed fair dueling practice, and it would give people something to do for quite a long time.

Players will end up making a "fair dueling practices" if say, healing is overpowered. "No healing in duels, no sleeping in duels etc..." would become ground rules that players would generally abide by if one class outshines another. (I would actually prefer they don't balance the classes for PvP.)

I doubt that "it being balanced" would be much of an issue, I for one couldn't care less if one class is OP against another, just knowing balance will be fixed in 2.0 would be fine. Really, I just want to thundaga people to the face.

Dueling/PvP scales with new content. No revisions needed.

Dueling would really give materia a use I think. As it is now, there is no content that "requires" any materia in general, but dueling other players with VERY similar gear makes every stat point you can cram onto gear useful. It would also make some useless materia useful. (I'm looking at you elemental DEF materia) among others.

The competition between players would create some overdue spice in the game. Put players at other players throats! There is no predictable AI when fighting another player, so this creates content that won't get boring quickly because each player has their own tactics, skill level and character differences.

    Implementation:
    • New menu option when targeting a player "Duel"
    • Second player accepts or declines exactly like a trade.
    • Countdown timer on the screen, same large text as is seen when "full party" appears.
    • Fight begins.
    • Player reduced to 1 (one) HP loses, does the /grovel emote.
    • Player who wins does the /joy emote.
    • PvP wins/losses are recorded under achievement tab.

Just something to throw out there,

Like the post if you agree, let's see what everyone thinks.

Sorry for another PvP thread, I just wanted to suggest something specific instead of losing it in another thread. Specifically "pvp before 2.0" and "Dueling as a viable option"

Even when they run out of MP in 3 nukes? Or if I go full M.resistance materia build?

How about archer burning them down? Barrage would destroy the THM, especially with a well timed decoy.

    Con just outheals it.

    There are many options.

i think it's really should be inside a specific area, then you can ask people want to dual or no.
To me, I hate compete with people a lot, even "friendly asking for dual" offended me.

2 PvP thread back to back... people really want to kill each other I guess...

I am super excited for pvp, I really can't wait. But I've seen this game change dramatically with every patch. I'd rather they wait until 2.0 for pvp, as this is something I really want done right. I want to at least see this released after it's finished rather than beta version.

If they could even release it before 2.0 it'll only be half of what they intended.

Sorry, but sounds like you're wanting this so bad you're willing to ignore the obvious. Even to the point of exaggeration (out of mp in 3 nukes? Come on now...)

pvp needs a place, im strongly against "open world" duels... not to mention all the stupid duel requests from random people you have to decline all day in the manner of "Yes mr. lvl50 dragoon i accept your challenge with my lvl20 conjurer, suuuuure".
open up the little Colosseum for people and let them fight inside after talking to a npc and being in a party of 2. that i would actually like, but the classes/jobs need to be at least a bit balanced, its just no fun to be told: "you can fight me but you're not allowed to use most of your spells" that's just lame

I'd love to have dueling right now... but I'd hate it as soon as they added it.

There needs to be A LOT of class balancing before we can duel. As a THM, I can do a lot of damage in a short amount of time and still have more than half my mp left.

    Easily solved:

    1. Add a config option to automatically deny duel requests (have yet to play a PvP game without this)
    2. "Open World" PvP is usually not open world. It usually refers to a few zones that PvP is allowed in. Make those zones only reward PvP gear (i.e., gear that is useless for PvE) that way people like you can play without being expected to PvP.

You have to remember, a lot of us really want what you're so vehemently against; however, there's no reason we can't be bloodily maiming each other while you play with ponies in PvE land.

Edit: This isn't an untested idea either. It's been implemented with great results in other games.
