Only done MCH, WHM, and SCH so far and I have to say that MCH was probably my favorite from a story perspective even if SCH had probably the best NPC fight I've seen in this game yet. As someone who hated how HW ended and the neat little bow that SE put upon the story I just can't help but prefer MCH though.

I didn't care too much for WHM since, while it brings up the issues with Padjali children, the game, AGAIN, just handwaves the entire fact that it's the Elementals being dicks. Seriously, why weren't THEY protecting Gatty and at least yelling at the other Padjal about her danger, but nope. We found her by accident.
AST was alright. But Geomanancers are now confirmed to exist, and the whole questline is wrapped around them, but I'm doing the *AST* questline, and would actually rather be leveling the actual GEO job as the new healer, kthx.
SCH and SMN were both much better. Lore heavy with good moments and fun fights. More of that, please.

They were directing Sylvie into the area, though. While there is definitely some jerk factor there, they weren't totally ignoring the situation.I didn't care too much for WHM since, while it brings up the issues with Padjali children, the game, AGAIN, just handwaves the entire fact that it's the Elementals being dicks. I'm really not sure from that questline how GEO is anything other than "WHM, except Eastern". It definitely makes clear they exist in the world, but doesn't do anything to explain how they'd be distinguished from what we already have.AST was alright. I see the Hingan geomancers in that storyline like the old Ishgardian astrologians in Coerthas Central Highlands in that they're just a red herring to lure us away from something we could actually get our hands on as a playable job.

I think the fact that Gatty's mother ran to Garlean occupied territory because her new born daughter was by law going to be TAKEN AWAY by Gridanian officials for being chosen as a Padjal was an obvious issue, too.
The whole reason Gatty was allowed to stay was from sympathy -from Sylphie and us- for her dying mother and to not risk escalating Gatty's own condition.
I mean, it just drummed up all my bad feelings over the whole of the Elementals and their lording over Gridanian folk, and it stained an otherwise really good little story.

Yeah, but that's Gridanians being jerks. They do that so they can be trained, but it's really insensitive. It did work for the plot in this case, I think, though.

It'll be arguing in circles since the Elementals have brainwashed Grid to do really messed up things in the eyes of an outsider. I mean, why didn't Sanche just let Gatty go? Because the Elementals didn't seem to make note she was in a bad place after having lost her husband, and Gatty was her last bit of family. So she booked it with her child verses giving her daughter to the state.
I mean, again, I can't help but be frustrated that everything is always the Elementals fault in some way, and no one has yet ever brought it up or questioned it since those that do are severely repressed or outcast. They just don't operate on the same moral rules as people, and it shows.
I didn't walk away from the WHM story feeling the bittersweet end, I walked away with THAT. Ugh.

So far, I've done WHM, AST, NIN, MNK, SAM, DRG, BRD, MCH and SMN.
I personally liked NIN, SAM and SMN the most, they are by far the clearest in my mind. But as so often, I end up going home with more questions than answers. I don't think I've seen a single mention of how my Samurai sword magic skills even work, but you sure can do fancy stuff with it.
MNK had a lot of potential, but unfortunately didn't make much out of it. This could have been so much more!
AST and BRD had some interesting background lore to it, but I didn't find it overly remarkable otherwise.
WHM, DRG and MCH... meh. The topics simply didn't interest me all that much. The DRG ending in particular put me off because it was so hella "convenient", the WHM one just tried too hard to put pressure on the tear gland, MCH felt somewhat redundant - Just say "Ishgard", I can fill in the gaps.

DRK, just like in the previous expansion, wins by virtue of its journal entries (which you should REALLY read if you've done them). My favorite line this expansion is this:
He laments his fate, wishing he could go back and convince his former self not to place his trust in the Griffin...but if such things were possible, you wouldn't have a broken shield, now would you?
