    Direct X 11 client issues

So I switched to the DX11 client as the devs said since and because it vastly improved performance for me in zones.

However I have a really irritating issue. The client will freeze for either a short time or long time on loading screens and then sort itself out. It's starting to get a tad annoying and I have tried everything possible. Reinstalling GPU drivers, Windows 10, checking my sound drivers although it's just the basic HD Audio ones that come with Windows 10 but updated and so on.

I'd rather not go back to DX9 because the performance increase here is noticeable for me. Has anyone any suggestions to remedy this issue or make it less frequent?

Good morning and thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

Can you explain in greater detail what the issue is? Does the freezing only happen when the game is loading, or can it happen any time? Do you have any other issues when you use DX11 mode?

We hope we can be of assistance in helping you enjoy the exciting world of Final Fantasy XIV!

The issue only occurs in loading screens. And the DX9 client is not an option because it performs worse for me in terms of FPS.

One other minor issue is that even when tabbed out if I have let's say Google Chrome open and I click it to close the game tabs back in. That issue I can live with.

But the loading screen freezes are making me want to switch to my PS4 version.

Good morning and thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

Can you describe the freezes? Roughly how long are they?

As for the tabbing in and out, this won't minimize the window so if you close out Chrome (or any other window), the game will likely be the next default window so it will open that up.

Anywhere from a few seconds to around 30-40 tops.

The tabbing thing as I said it's a minor thing for me.

But the freezes are starting to irritate me a little. As I said I've done everything possible. Reinstalled drivers, windows, cleaned my pc and well the list goes on.

A member of my FC says it's to do with server lag if that's any help.

Thank you for the reply Trekkie22,

What you are describing doesn't seem too out of the ordinary. The freezes probably isn't the game freezing but the loading screen animation while the next area is loading. Some areas can take up to 30 to 40 seconds to load so I'm not sure if there is a glitch or technical issue with your copy of the game. As such, I'm not sure if there is anything that can be done outside of upgrading your hardware. I apologize for the inconvenience, but we will note this down as we are continuing to improve the game in any way we can.

We hope we can be of assistance in helping you enjoy the exciting world of Final Fantasy XIV!

Issues with loading is usually a hard drive issue, either too full, fragmented, or just going out. General rule has been to have 25% of it free at least. Can also sometimes be RAM related, IE: system using all available.

Keep in mind that this behavior is not out of the ordinary even for a new mechanical hard drive. You can load the same thing 20 times and each time it will be different, sometimes slower or faster, depending on other applications accessing the drive at the time of load, including virus scans, and windows update. Also, defrag is only necessary for a mechanical hard drive, and not solid state hard drive (SSD).

Sorry I did want to get back to this but I got a bit sidetracked.

Basically it's been happening since Heavensward. I found it most notable when I teleport into Idyllshire. It'll either lock up for a long time or lock up briefly. The instance thing is rare and it happens briefly with New Gridania.

These are my system specs if it helps and I use the Steam version.

    AMD FX 6300 CPU
    8GB ram.
    Nvidia Geforce GTX 1050
    Windows 10 Home.

I've had a similar issue for a long time, since around patch 3.2. Sometimes it recovers within a few seconds (5-15), but most of the time it doesn't and it'll quit responding, requiring a process kill and restart. It used to only be in specific zones (Idyllshire, Aleport, and some Gridania zones), now it's much worse.
Tried things with changing antivirus, disabling overlays, reinstalling, and whatnot.
    AMD FX8350, Radeon RX480, 8GB RAM, Windows 7 Professional.
