To be fair, in this situation, there would be no argument if they never made Perform usable in instances. Just saying.Especially pre-made parties. And if you STILL want to stress this pointless, stubborn argument, just make it so that Perform can't be used during combat. "Oh, but then... uh, what if the Bard just decides to play songs instead of coming with the group?" Uhm, I dunno? Same as a tank who decides to AFK for no reason? Tall to them politely and if they still keep it up, kick them? Like... hello?
♥ Baby, tell me, what's your motive? ♥
When they add an option to turn off perform sounds specifically I'll have no problem with perform being usable everywhere and anywhere
I'd be fine with that. Make a checkbox under character settings to let people control whether they can hear Perform sounds from other Bards. I think that would make everyone happy.

LOTRO allowed minstrels to be able to actually change the songs of their abilities, not just the performed songs. It was actually quite awesome, and I loved it.
On the flip side, it can totally break your immersion if someone is playing the Full House theme song before you fight Saruman. Through the Fire and Flames I could get behind, but not some of the cheesy crap people would do.

Warframe has this as well. There is an entire music based frame called Octavia. You can create music with her Mandachorde and that song will play when any of her abilities are used, and knowing the song can be useful since one of her abilities needs you to perform an action in beat with the song to gain specific buffs (Shoot in beat with the song, gain increased fire rate, jump in beat with the song, get speed boost, crouch in beat with the song, turn invisible for a bit.) but yeah, the music you make is played whenever one of her abilities is used. It was pretty neat, seen some cool covers come out of such a limited music maker.
