Honestly? I could see them keeping him being barely understandable as a joke and make his voice be like Boomhauer from King of the Hill. "Dangnabprimalsandtheredangnabentrhallinginnocents...bydangmothacrystalweshouldputastoptothem. Mhm."
No.
There's plenty of MMO's out there with nothing but American accents. FFXIV does things differently and is more in line with the style of FFXII - embracing a variety of British accents and dialects throughout it's game world. It works well and casts some light on lesser known accents that are not often mainstream outside of the United Kingdom such as Ilberd and Arenvald having 'Northern' accents.
If you really want to hear Southern American accents in a game so badly, you can go and play FFXV which was designed with them in mind.
Only if there are banjo's playing in the background haha....
If we're requesting dialect optiins I'd like to throw New Jersey in the mix, so I can truly feel at home in Eorzea.
Having lived in the usa south all my life, I despise the accent. Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate it. Somehow managed to avoid developing one myself thankfully.
This thread makes me shake my head. Some of these accents would ruin the game for me, I admit.
Good troll post though.

We’re all advocating for the type of game we want to see. Mine just happens to clash with yours. I like a story driven game, where people can come together as a community, and defeat challenges based on a PVE format. I want to work together. [snip] You’re not gonna like what I say, but I’m gonna say it regardless because I want Square Enix to hear the other side.
For a game that relies so heavily on voice actors from Europe, I'm surprised there aren't any Irish or Scottish accents in the mix.
Also, is it bad that I kinda want an NPC with an American valley girl accent? Preferably one that gets the Wile E. Coyote treatment.
