Maybe, maybe not, here is the full explanation.

Sometimes, if things are not going in a way you are used to, a healer or DPS may mark a tank so they can see them easier. For DPS, it means easier time to stand behind it, for healer, knowing where the tank is easier to keep everyone in range of healing.

Marking a healer is just easier to know where they are, its very common in pvp esp.

Marking a DPS would be to track their movements to see if they are moving weird or getting hit too much but not doing it sooner makes it even more of an odd situation.

Now marking only qualifies as harassment if they keep putting it on you after you take it off (just target yourself and hit the same marker, least that is easiest for me to do it) After once or twice you need to stay stop marking me I do not like it. If they keep doing it, you say it again, stop marking me. At that point if they keep doing it, and you call a GM at that point, they will look into it. Basically you need tell them to stop, otherwise a GM will not do anything. For the advice take a picture is not helpful and gms will not do anything with it.

And I wasn't getting wound up - I did give my commendation to the guy who put the marker on me. I came here to ask because maybe people have had similar experiences. Thanks for your response - cheers!

I've only been playing just a touch over 2 weeks now and have run a few dungeons. I've played MMO's for years and am aware that tanking in a game is usually an acquired talent, but this time, I jumped in feet first. Have done most of the dungeons I've unlocked up to The Navel trial and have to say that all of my groups have been patient with me and been more than welcome to give advice when it looks like I'm needing it. I've even been called down once after a wipe (which was basically my lack of keeping aggro sufficiently) and it was direct, but politely given. It's nice to know that there are still some human beings around.
Nice to know and i wish you good luck, tank class in this game is indeed interesting, imho much more fun than other classes and queue happen in instant.
Its enjoyable experience, just make sure you will use the cooldown abilities that boosts your deffences frequently, it helps a tons in the long run, as a tank you specially need to use them on trash mobs, since they happen to do more dmg than the bosses a lot of times. :P

Well, lets enjoy it before community from world of tragedy will force square enix to implement ingame parser, so it will be the second world of wacraft with no warcraft in it. XD

Does WoW have a strong JP player base migrating to XIV? Because if the JP players aren't begging for ingame parsers, I can guarantee you we'll never see an official one.

    Also, World of Tragedy lol

Regardless of whether or not I know them, if I see somebody doing something that they not supposed to be doing, I will give them advice. If you're one of those individuals who immediately kicks because a player makes a mistake without first trying to help them, then yeah, you are creating a problem.

Context matters too to add to what you are saying. Kicking someone for being afk is different than kicking someone for not getting a 4k parse they can't see. There have been plenty of times where a guy says "Hay I'm new to this dungeon or job, let me know what's up." Those guys won't get pissed when you say this boss does X or putting up tanking buff is a good idea, because they asked for advice.

To go back to OP I have my suspicions of weather or not the context of the conversation was polite.

Also: It is entirely possible that "bad player" is trolling. I've seen people move around the A,B,C in raids. Or spell things out. After a wipe or two everyone just left. It's extremely easy for someone to intentionally mess up Savage. I've even seen try hard parser guy intentionally mess things up because something set him off. Like in a MOBA when a guys says "well this isn't going to work" and just sits in the base. Self fulfilling prophecy.

Fair enough, context is very important. Griefers and trolls are definitely here, but I think they're in the minority when compared to players who simply cannot handle any kind of advice thrown their way.

I wonder what do the Japanese players think of parsers? Are they too requesting the parsers as much as the Western players?
