But Legatus is a military rank, not a jobI dislike when people say things like Berserker/Viking, seems like it completely ignores the Warrior and it's theme in this game. Particularly when such jobs are paired with a "we need a hammer class!" arguments. Why not a Judge (FFXII), Legatus (FFXIV), or a Enforcer (FFXIV, 1.0)? All of these have been shown to use wield Hammers in the FF titles in the past, or have had allusions to it. In FFXIV, we have two encounters with Hammer using Legatus.

One of the things that makes this game appealing to me is that the weapons are relatively realistic, or at least based in reality. And there's a very big difference between having a floating globe as a mage's focus and having a weapon that doesn't actually physically work, like a whip sword. There's plenty of games that feature crazy anime weapons, I for one would like FFXIV to remain as grounded as it is.
I have two suggestions. First, a quarterstaff. I don't know what job this would be for, but it's a dynamic weapon with tons of flashy attacks. And it would add another blunt weapon to the mix, which the game sorely needs.
I'd also like to see a warhammer, but one based on historical warhammers rather than the typical oversized stuff you see in video games. By all means, have gigantic hammers as options, but base the style on the actual, much more compact real-life version.
Despite the joke that XIV is anime, our weapon choices are mostly realistic aside from the more weird ones with all the unnecessary spikes and filigree on them.
1. No thanks, that IS anime.
2. Have you seen some of nin's weapons? They are swords instead of daggers.
3. With the exclusion of the the Musketeer's Guild, it's unlikely we'll get dual guns anytime soon, plus I prefer one big gun as opposed to guns akimbo myself
4. Would need a new job, hand-to-hand is too much part of monk's identity
5. Do you mean dual wielding axes? Just more dual wielding being used as shorthand for "cool"
6. What is a double-edged spear? Like a double-edged sword that cuts in both directions? We have some of those designs already
7. Neat concept but highly unlikely if we want to stay with grounded weapon concepts. Would need a new job anyway
8. We got the glamour scythe for a few jobs and it doesn't fit them thematically really. Plus as Enkidoh said, we have actual functional scythes on botanist. War scythes always seemed more like modified polearms to me which why not give to dragoon?
9. Another neat concept. Would need a new job for the same reasons as #4
10. Ninja already has that as a mudra ability. Also hi again anime
11. Not against fans as weapons but again would need a new job
And again you are just bumping your blog. Why not take the suggestion I proposed a while back and just make a Xygar's Ideas thread and bump that instead of adding to the massive pile that is GD? Your ideas are just "cool" concepts without consideration how they fit into the world or how they'd even work

Magitek Armor Mech for a weapon, Chainsaw like Edgar had or maybe use Shield for weapon.

look at point 1 as to why u cant mix threads together thanks and bye
So are Paladin and Dragoon. Dark Knight being a outcast Knight, not actually a job. White, Black, and Red Mage are fields of study. The Arcanist job (class) branches to the Summoner and Scholar, both are not jobs in so far as specializations of a reputable Guild with a necessary function in Limsa Lominsa. By this standard most "jobs" in FF are not really jobs as those without guilds are just adventurers with specialized skills and abilities in comparison to those base classes (jobs). However as it is a game such things happen. These Ranks and Titles are used to very quickly explain the focus and play style of our characters.
More weapon ideas
Warhammer/Mace + Shield
Warmaul (2H)
Pike + Shield
Cannon (Ranged DPS I suppose blunt damage cause... cannonballs and explosions)
Gunblade (1H)
Bastardbluss (2H like that legatus guy used)
Chakram
Slingshot
Aetherblade (melee weapon that derives damage output from caster stats)
Musical Instruments (Actual weapon in FFT series)
Throwing cards (Gambler job >.>)
Flails (No not spike flail... I'm looking at you Fafnir)
Would you please stop making threads linking to your blog, if people are interested in what's on your blog they'll go there and look for themselves.. Most of these suggestions need more thought before being posted in a public forum for discussion.
Uhhh you are aware that the warrior axe is much bigger than real battle axes. One of the things that makes this game appealing to me is that the weapons are relatively realistic, or at least based in reality. I agree with the idea that we don't need more "anime-esque" stuff in the game. A big draw to FFXIV was the realism to it's equipment selections and designs. A big issue with the Heavensward equipment was how over the top flashy and unreal a lot of it was. Figured that was just a personal (Just me) opinion, but talking to people about the Stormblood equipment being more ARR-like it seems like I wasn't the only one who greatly prefers the more realistic cloth, leather, and light plating designs over the super flash of 3.0.
What we need are more blunt options since that's what's in dire need, as well as tanks and healers. An obvious pick would be a tank with a blunt weapon, like a hammer. Another cool alternative (Not sure if there's much Final Fantasy classes built like it aside from Fang in XIII) are battle mages. Could be a cool idea if the next tank we feature would be a battle mage that uses another form of staff/pole. Would love to see more hybrid classes as well.
