Which job quests are MSQ-relevant?

I'm midway through Heavensward and also working on getting all of the ARR job quests completed. Some of these tie into the MSQ and should be done for story continuity, particularly the Dragoon quest which involves Estinien prior to his part in the MSQ, and the Monk quest that relates to the Ala Mhigan resistance.

I'd like to know if there are any similar job quests in Heavensward that I should aim to complete before I move onto Stormblood.

(Also I understand Dark Knight is supposed to be story-relevant to Heavensward but portrays your character's thoughts in a specific way that seems to be the opposite of how I perceive my character's personality, so I don't really want to do those. Am I missing anything important by avoiding that job?)

Besides an actually good job quest storyline, I don't think so, no.

Dragoon is honestly the only job that produces more then a handful of changed lines in the MSQ.

Also, some of the HW and SB job quests are written in such a manner that they aren't occurring within a time bubble like the ARR ones (Which don't change regardless of your MSQ progression) and will have slightly changed dialogue based on whether or not you've already finished the MSQ of their respective expansions.

The thing with Stormblood is that this time, it seems your progress in the main quest results in dialogue changes for the job quests, not the other way around like it was for Dragoon during Heavensward.

Take the Bard quests from 60-70, for instance. It was a rather political world building series of quests, revolving around getting to the truth of a little known incident towards the end of the Autumn War between Gridania and Ala Mhigo decades before. As someone who leveled Bard first, there was urgency in trying to figure out what to do with the truth, since openly talking about it could lead to Alliance efforts to free Ala Mhigo from Imperial occupation losing support from the populace of Gridania, while completely suppressing evidence of what occurred isn't a good solution either.

But from what I understand, starting on those Bard quests after clearing the main quest shifts the narrative from 'support of the war to free Ala Mhigo' to 'support of reconstruction efforts'.

Monk Lv 60-70

The story quests DIRECTLY tell you more about the history of Ala Mhigo and it's history. It's probably the most MSQ relevent quests in the game quite honestly.

Well it is not MSQ relevant per se but the Red Mage mentions Alisaie quite a lot references you clearing the Great Gubal Library (if you did) and even talks about Zenos. Oh and Jessie also shows up. So yeah. Red Mage has all sorts of good stuff in it.

The SMN Job line from 50 to 60 delved more into the nature of the Ascians, specifically the revelation that lower ranked Ascians cannot endlessly revive if their host dies, as unlike the Overlord Ascians like Lahabrea, lower rank Ascians use the recently dead as their hosts, which means if their host is completely destroyed and there is not another corpse nearby to have their spirit flee to, they die too permanently (they cannot wait it out on the boundary of the 'aetherial sea').

Also in reverse in Stormblood in a blink and you'll miss it scene during the cutscenes to liberate Doma Castle, Oboro from the NIN quests is seen beside Alphinaud and Alisiae when they deactivate the magitek field generators. I have no idea if he shows up if you haven't at least done the level 30-60 NIN quests by that point though.

I know that at some point when doing something with yugiri she’ll say you should train as a ninja, but if you already have ninja she’ll say I see you’ve been training as a ninja. Not a major detail but it’s there. I think that was in HW, can’t recall.

Also, not job quest related but if you beat the coils of Bahamut before stormblood alisaie will be nicer to you.

nothing that is directly main story quest
but they are side stories involving characters and if you've done MSQ first it does reflect in them
even the crafter and gatherer ones

I think dragoon is the only one that changes heavensward at all and ninja is very minor thing for stormblood, maybe? hard to tell but there's like one line that seems out of place if you haven't met the ninjas before

oddly the monk quest seems very disconnected from MSQ but as a side story it's very nice addition

and astro quests hint at maybe the next healer class, maybe?
