They already do this, but they would have to basically remake the game, and add content, while remaking the game, making it compatible for both versions at the same time.
Not really. The database structure can be redesigned without affecting the live game if they're smart about it.
Haven't read all the posts in the thread but I agree with you OP and I always said to my friends that the first priority should be renovating the whole infrastructure to solve this since it's the mayor bottleneck that the game has
If they were to do a full rebuild, theyd do it wtih an XPac. Though from a standpoint, there is not enough driving reason fro them to do one. Yes there are limitations that annoy the player base, but because its popular as is, nothing is prompting htem to fix it. There is not enough outcry that it would be more cost effective to fix the issues than ignore them.
If the player base were to suddenly shrink due to coding issues, or because competition drastically pulls players away from the game due to outdated mechanics/coding, you can bet youll see it become a priority. But as long as profits are stable or rising, its not at the top of the agenda from a business stand point.
WHERE IS THIS KETTLE EVERYONE KEEPS INTRODUCING ME TO?
so you think it's reasonable that they're asking for the team to work on not only a new game (in everything but actual name) , but content for the old game at the same time AND making it compatible with the new game? Just because it's "a little bit at a time"?
You who understood in the beginning that if this DOES happen it will require we get NOTHING new until the new version has been coded, tested, implemented and released?
If this is your position then I'm going to doubt your credibility or rationality.
They will NEVER do what this person has asked for. It's cruel to ask for, and anyone who thinks it's "what this game needs" is selfish and doesn't understand the amount of work and dedication that it asks of people.
WHERE IS THIS KETTLE EVERYONE KEEPS INTRODUCING ME TO?
There are like 2-3 Star Trek episodes about this exact mentality: leaders of these societies that are all like "These people have lived here for thousands of years! It would be cruel to ask them to leave!"
Meanwhile a giant goddamn asteroid is a week away from killing everyone.
Maybe you need to re-read the OP, because it cites only the devs' repeated insistence on the fact that the database servers and infrastructure are woefully inadequate to implement nearly any addition to the game players request. It then continues to say that we, the players, would be fine with the devs taking the time they need to rebuild this infrastructure because it would mean smoother sailing in the long run.
Not sure how you take that and transform it into a demand that these issues be fixed...
Really, it's going to be a bigger problem for them than it is for the players. All I'm saying is I would be understanding if they needed to take a lot of time to fix it...
I agree with this. If they are going to do this, it would be for a new game. They will not get enough of an ROI, if any, to justify it.
I am going to respond separately to this part. As a person with a heart, I would care.
But...
I see things like this often, and it really is misplaced.
As paying customers, this is not our responsibility. If they do not have the necessary staff to run this product, we shouldn’t accept less for our money because someone else simply wants to keep more money for themselves. I think it is accepted as either true or mostly true that SE makes money from sales and subscriptions for this product.
How much profit they realize or want to realize from it aren’t our concerns. Only what they provide in return for our money.
Even more, it may do good to not poo poo the company and simply accept less, they could do the unthinkable. Hire more people to properly support their product and do the things they need to do that the game can flourish. Again, their problems, not ours.
Asking for something may not always lead to people being abused, sometimes it does the opposite.
#GetSelliBack2018
Reading too much of the forums makes me very sad and apathetic.
I think its time for one. FFXI came out in 2002 and 8 years later 2010 FFXIV 1.0 came out. Now its been almost another 8 years since FFXIV 1.0 came out. Hope if they do update engine they use same engine other new SE game's have. Think its unreal 4 engine that they use.
