Is it maybe time for a full infrastructure rebuild? (Re: Database and netcode issues)

I just want to say the Glamour Toilet is being done badly. It's starting off on the completely wrong foot, almost like SE haven't listened to what anyone actually wanted to use a system like this for. Everyone asked for a log book, they gave us a city based retainer.

I don't know why they couldn't have just done something like the Gathering log which actually would have been fun to complete. Then, instead of owning all that stuff, they could have like, a Wardrobe Assistant that you order it in from once its been ticked off/handed in for your log. The "ensembles" are the sets they allow you keep on hand.

Things people asked for that are being addressed:
Inventory space
different outfits for the same gear on different jobs.
Ease of use (I will argue this is much easier than finding my glamour item and getting a prism every time I upgrade any slot)


I don't think I've ever heard anyone say it needed to be fun. Not that it's not a valid concern, just I'd not heard that asked for.

Nobody knows why this is the particular direction was taken, which is a little frustrating. But it's a start in a direction I can see actually working very well once developed and tested. Someday we might find we have a glamour catalogue of 700+ slots and 30 outfits... for now we have 200 and 10. I'm Ok with this as a start, but only if it's a start and not a final solution.

Wait for there next ff mmos, ffxi has incredible bad net code but it also works over dial up.
Ffxiv was build onto of some off that net code for 1.x
And a lot of it is still there now.

Ffxiv has 5 years left in it before they ramp up for the next ff mmos hopefully they have learn what to take into the next one.

well I don't know a thing about the back end of the game but I would supect there is still some code from 1.0 still there.

if there wasn't they would not have been able to convert the database over with minium issues, otherwise the would have forced us to being again from level 1 on all jobs when 2.0 hit wether you are new or legacy player

I know this, if they don't fix the lag cause I play on ps4 and I seen it effect my cousin on pc just as bad the stop go lag.
once 4.2 comes out and I reach and beat the content get few items then cancel sub and go play something else come back when new patch comes out.

I would stay and cap tomes and help others but I don't like the rubber band feeling and don't be like i'm sorry to hear that please give me internet provider and go do the port forward the numbers cause it don't work.

Well let's be real there. A whole lot of people had problems with their Canadian ISP too back when they were in Montreal.

At this point I don't know if they've just managed to choose another ISP that can't handle their traffic (maybe it's time to look in to regional data centers) or if their netcode is really just so completely abominable that it can't handle realistic levels of latency and packetloss that might occur over a couple thousand miles of countryside. To be fair, it could easily be both.

Well either way it should be fixed, this is the only game that I see issues with its funny my cousin played FFXI for a long time he said never had internet issues he could leave that game on all night while he bazar and no drops unless they had a maintenance.

this game has had problems since beta re-made it didnt have problems after 1 single update they did a few years back that started the 90k errors.

I think people seem to have forgotten how big the gap was between 1.0 and 2.0.

1.0 was switched off 12 November 2012
2.0 started up on 27 August 2013

There were some brief beta periods where you could play (including beta 4 where any changes you made carried over to the full 2.0 game), but it was essentially 9 months without the game running.

Not 9 months without content, 9 months of no game at all.

Square Enix certainly aren't going to want to shutdown again and I doubt the majority of the players would want them to either.

Sure we all want more flexibility with things, but it's not like they don't give us updates, we're just very demanding and always want more.

Haven't read all the posts in the thread but I agree with you OP and I always said to my friends that the first priority should be renovating the whole infrastructure to solve this since it's the mayor bottleneck that the game has

If they were to do a full rebuild, theyd do it wtih an XPac. Though from a standpoint, there is not enough driving reason fro them to do one. Yes there are limitations that annoy the player base, but because its popular as is, nothing is prompting htem to fix it. There is not enough outcry that it would be more cost effective to fix the issues than ignore them.

If the player base were to suddenly shrink due to coding issues, or because competition drastically pulls players away from the game due to outdated mechanics/coding, you can bet youll see it become a priority. But as long as profits are stable or rising, its not at the top of the agenda from a business stand point.
