I would like a party mount, so the PT leader or whoever can drive the whole party around!
    Awesome way to afk!

Terrain specific mounts sounds cool and very FF. It might be a pain depending on how it was implemented.

    This sounds AMAZING. to me!

Correct me if i'm wrong. But i believe the OP was implying you could use -any- mount you wished to travel, however only certain ones would be able to access certain areas.

I.E.: You need the Blue Chocobo to get to the Water Elemental's Lair.
You are rewarded the Blue Chocobo for completing the questline "The Great Drought"

EDIT: Not to chance exciting the wrath of the forumgoers, but WoW used this in a slightly similar way. And lots of RPGS use this also.

In WoW you would go through the zones but higher-level content (Which could only be reached when you had a mount that could fly) was nearby but inaccesible for lower levels.

Along the same route, Several dungeons( Think Pokemon) You couldn't access some of the higherlevel areas unless you had the special Skills, Cut/Swim, etc.

Imagine if there was a river in Nanawa Mines you could only cross once you obtained the Blue Chocobo Mount, leading to a Dragon's Aery type field.

You're all forgetting the fact that these mounts are only available for a limited time. Creating game mechanics to work with them wouldn't go over well in the long run.

I believe people are thinking beyond the limited edition mounts, at least I am.

Must go add this to my "Daydreams About 2.0" page...

The idea is okay in theory. But with a new map coming out at 2.0 and hopefully new players, you would think they would have to receive a mount capable of accessing those areas too.

yeah, as far as I ( and I believe OP) is concerned, The limited time mounts don't apply to any of these thoughts.

The floating eye would assist us in getting across those small gaps we can't access.

These are obviously just examples but I think these are great ideas for the mounts coming are way. Give us a reason to use them, to obtain them. Have a purpose for them other than getting us from point A to B that we have already discovered both on foot and on Chocobo a million times. Bring significance to each new mount with a means of assisting us to get to areas we couldn't get to with a previous mount.

What does everyone think of this?
I think it's an awesome idea!

Though it may not be likely implemented or designed for the current FF XIV system or 2.0 but having unique mounts for neat purposes would be neat. Reminds me of Zelda when you need a certain colored tunic or piece of gear to survive or make it across into another area. It gives the mount more of a purpose and an identity in the process.

But I don't think it will happen anytime soon. At least, not in the dev team's current plans. But hey! You never know who's listening?

I'd rather not mount up the Situation.
