Assault would be awesome too. But signet is really not a new type of content. You said it yourself--it just...

Signet is just a really dated idea, that adds absolutely no content and supplements grinding.[/QUOTE]

Grinding is going to happen. The end. So why not get a few seals (I'm not talking 50 a kill, like 2-3 a kill) for doing it?

If you look at the Grand Companies they are what? Military structured command system with units and such to be moved and deployed in the defense of the city state.

Correct so what would you think would be a good system to allow players to earn GCS instead of XP or lower the rate XP is earned but also allow for a small flow of GCS?

Oh I know a TDS or TOS... erm what are those you ask? A TDS or Troop Deployment System and a TOS or Troop Operations System that is what!

The TDS and TOS can be set for all the different areas around where beastman camps and strongholds are located. Sort of like how leves are at certain camp points and such only these would be split out to all the different beastman areas. Though don't think of them like leves because they are not!!

Here is how it would work ok. You go to your GC office and pick a TDS or TOS. The initial fee of GCS for a TDS or TOS is 100 or so seals which grants you a 2-4hr buff in which your XP is converted over to GCS (sort of 1000xp = 1 GCS?).
So wait. Every 1000xp I get a seal? X_X" I know I said I thought the gain should be minimal, but... that seems like a good reason to continue doing solo leves. However, I'll just pretend that those numbers are an integral part of your system. ^-^

Now you are thinking erm but only 2 or 4 hours? really? Yes for the standard TDS or TOS only 2-4hrs. You can buy the longer duration TDS or TOS for more GCS that say extend it out 24hrs to a week at the most. The buff you get is only active in the stronghold of camp area you picked from the TDS/TOS list and if you are not in said camp/stronghold areas you do not get the buff. Also the only mobs the buff works for are the beastmen... if you pick a camp and are still within the camp area but you kill say some sheep you get xp not GCS so all kills for this must be beastmen and their allies.

Later on the system can be improved to add in different Empire camps/strongholds when/if they come into play... and also there could be TOS missions setup for some of the dungeons and such.

Does this sound like a better idea? maybe you should think about it some more... I also suggest when you are going to post something about a system from another game do no mention said game and try to put a your own twist on the idea. This way if someone says oh you mean like from here you can say um did that game have a system just like this? and you are not instantly into the whole no this no that because it came from X game...
I mean, other than the numbers, this kind of sounds like what someone sounds earlier--that it should only work on stronghold mobs--but with the limit of only picking your stronghold. Someone else already said that you should suffer an exp penalty to get seals instead, and tbh I'm all for that idea. Rather than signet (required to get seals) why not get an "active duty" kind of buff that switches your xp gain to seal gain? Like switching to meripo mode, except you can't do it from anywhere. Hell, I don't care if you could switch it from the main menu--would that please the anti-signet/anti-XI/anti-town-running people? It would also solve our "OMG LEVEL SYNC? BUT I'M LEVEL 50, I CAN'T GET ANYTHING!¬!££%(¬*£(!$*&^%" issue, by allowing level 50s to at least get seals. Heh. For a random idea, I kind of like it. o.0
    And I typed too much...

    The cat is bemused =-.-=
Typing too much is a sign that your thought process went beyond "I MISS THIS" and "IT'S OLD."

To those of you like Vedis that are against any good idea simply because its taken from XI, maybe if this game was more like XI it wouldn't suck so bad. CHocobos are in just about every FF game, yet I don't here people whining that its ruining this game.

I am all for anything that gets people proud of their nation and out of Ul'dah as long as it adds more depth to what feels like a rather hollow game right now. I don't give a S@#$ if the ideas are from other games. People need to get over this notion that no good ideas could ever be taken from other MMO's. Its that kind of thinking that got the steaming pile that was this game at release.
I'm really bummed out at the lack of national pride, too. In XI, we could change nations, yet there was a stronger sense of connection. I think part of this comes from the lack of story, though. FFXI cutscenes made me cry the first time through. XIV cutscenes make me use the skip cinematic button sometimes. FFXI bosses took dedication and effort. XIV missions have lame battles that are mostly soloable. There's very little to get you in character, so to speak.

XIV is more like a big sandbox full of disconnected events that get you different rewards. Few people bother getting into the story, and I don't blame them. When it takes a conscious effort, it's hard to keep reading.

    I'm officially completely off-topic. I'm stopping now.
