    Gender ratio

Is there any actual census on how many male vs female players play FFXIV? I feel like I've seen numbers before where it was relatively even, but perhaps that was characters, not players.

Lately I've been aware of just how few other girls I've met; I know two in total, in both my FC and FL/ hang-out group, and over the two years I've been playing I've only met a handful (almost always my FC leaders.) My friends are great, of course, but sometimes it feels pretty alienating and I miss normal girl talk. Is this a common thing?

I know plenty of girl's online at least in passing. Funnily enough, a good third of them or so play male characters. I don't think there's any official census though.

You could always throw up a PF looking for some girl friends. It certainly can't hurt, and I've definitely seen people do the same thing just because they're gay/european/middle-aged/potatoes.

I love the official forums, they tell you to use the search for thread about what you wanted to talk but when you use it they judge for necro a thread.

None of the female players I know play males, but almost every male player plays female(myself included) so ....idk I find that kinda funny.

90% of my female friends play male characters because they got bad experience in MMOs, other girls find male characters attractive and want to look at them, some others identify with that gender (mentally, physically, or both), and other just prefer the way how male characters look and their outfits.

At first, I didn't know they were girls. I don't go around asking for their gender. People tend to just say it later on or you hear them on discord. It's not like we ask people when we meet them face to face, "hey you were actually born a female/male or did you transition to be female/male?

Anecdotally, this seems to a game with a larger female community than a lot of other MMOs. Coming up with hard numbers on that is really hard because how do you query a statistically valid set of the playerbase, let alone all of it? YoshiP would have the information from Square Enix accounts, where you can specify it. So that's about as accurate as it's going to get most likely.

Being on a roleplay server I see far more female players than not honestly. My guild is at a 70%-30% ratio currently and no one seems to care about hiding their gender here. Though because it's a roleplay server you have female and male players playing characters of their opposite gender.

To me, all players are male. No need to know what their gender is irl. If they choose to tell me for some reason or another fine, but i would question, does it matter?

I can very much relate to this bit specifically.

I play this game with some awesome guys between my boyfriend, friends from the forum and my FC and yet I only know two (maybe 3?) girls who play.

One thing I've learned though is that a lot of girls just don't tell anyone that they're girls because they think they'll be hassled about it. While this isn't an experience I've had much of I understand the idea behind it.

But yeah, one thing I tend to not get much of on here is girl talk. Even something superficial like my complaints about the two wildly different pigmentation options for eye shadow and blush and how both are pretty much not things you do irl are met with silence/jokes usually.

Stick it out OP. There are girl gamers out there, just apparently we camouflage.

Just my own anecdata/experience but almost every raid group I've had or known indirectly, has had 1 female player, which is a 1:7 ratio. There might be slightly more on the social side of the game but we don't tend to use voice as much in non raid settings, so it's hard to tell. I've definitely been in some FC discords where the ratio is much more balanced.

If you play a game like overwatch, I think you'd understand instantly. FFXIV is really one of the better communities out there. A number of others still think it's the 18th century, apparently...
