The amount of nodes (how many triangulate can find) and level of nodes display should be based on level:

in the right zone for your level
-passive 15 yalm auto display of nodes (shows on minimap, no ability)
-when using the arbor like ability shows a general circle (like leve's) on the map, and minimap (when close enough)
-triangulate adds more description like "you sense 2 trees near, 3 far" (or some display on the minimap of near and far, and the direction (west, east, north, south), NOT location just a number on the west edge of the minimap with 3 or 2 in green, 1 in red showing the distance (2,1)) - the markers disappear at cooldown reset.

in a place higher then you:
-passive 1-2 yalms away (basically if your on top of it you should already see it, but it'll show on the minimap anyway)
    - none of your abilities detect these higher items (you can only detect what is appropriate for your level)

in a place lower then you:
    - passive 100 yalms
    - smaller circles for arbor (better general area)
    - triangulate can use sub directions like "north-west".

This can be scaled, doesn't have to be constant values:

I'm level 10, in a grade 2 area, just "ready" for that area of trees
my passive detection is only 9 yalms, say at level 15 my passive is 15 yalms, and slowly increase till maximum yalms- as the power of abilities compares to grades available at location.
The arbor scales with the size of circle and distance.
Triangulate by distance and number of nodes and if it will display sub directions or not.

Also please remove the I II III levels of abilities, if there are many grade levels in an area detect them all and just inform the player which grades are which direction (only one arbor ability, update its tooltip for what grades it can detect).

Just like mage's and their spells- base the power of the spell on level.

    level 1 - 9, grade 1
    level 10-19 grade 1, grade 2
    so on and so forth

The only issues that I am having is when it tells you its at 40 yalms but its behind a wall and the entrance is 200 yalms back the way you came.
I agree with one post here about lower levels crashing the nodes so I am against SE showing them on a map. What I would like to see instead is customized map markers.

If they let you do your own markers you pin them all and you know where to go.

I have been asking for map markers for a crap load of time. Why something so basic has not been implemented yet, beats me.

The thing I hate the most is when n00bs are in an area way above them to get 500exp for a fail and they collapse my node just when hand of the gods procs.
    So again no.
IMO there's a much easier and more logical solution to the problem than "make it harder for them to find nodes"

Just make it so that if you're not a high enough rank for that grade, you *CANT* mine it (like every other MMO out there). Give an error message stating that you're "not skilled enough to mine at this location" or something until you're the proper level. For example, with grade 4 nodes you cannot mine them at all until level 25, at 25 you should learn Lay of the land (the one that gives general NSEW direction) for grade 4 nodes and be able to mine them with 4-5 swings, and have access to leves for them like you do now. At 28 you get Prospect (the one that points you directly to the node) as well as a "normal" success rate on the nodes. And then maybe at 32-33 you should get access to a third harvesting level for grade 4 since the exp tapers off considerably but you still do not have access to G5 until 35, just to give a little bit of an exp boost without constantly running back to town for more leves.

I think the fact that a level 1 can mine a grade 5 node is the real gamebreaking problem here, not whether or not nodes are displayed locally on the minimap.

Also, correct me if i'm wrong, but I was under the impression that all harvesting nodes were generated on a per-character basis, and that other characters do not interact with your nodes in any way, shape, or form (which is why node respawns are based on either time or you interacting with two other nodes). I'm not sure how some lowbie can be tapping out "your" node if they aren't even hitting the same node as you.

completely agree with you, and i wish they would do this, it would make leveling some worth.
