I've thought about this quite a bit since Rab opened up and I think part of it is to do with the players participating in it today compared to on it's first day/week/etc.

That first day I wiped once to Hashmal and had a near wipe on Mateus. The run was more or less blind, there was one DRK who had completed it before and the only advice he offered was "pay more attention to mechanics than your dps, these guys don't have enrage timers if you perform the mechanics correctly" which, in retrospect, is great advice. Not that they ever have actual enrage timers but the built-in dps checks are 100% clearable if you just have your group up and doing damage.

That being said the quality of player on day one (on average) was considerably higher than the quality of player today. These people took that much longer to unlock and participate in this content and they're generally further down the casual ladder than those in before it gave you a 340 weapon.

In short I think sometimes we underestimate the gap between the higher casual/midcore area where many of us forum users float and the actual bottom of the barrel. I think in many cases it would be a more reasonable comparison to compare one of us to a world's first progger than to compare someone who is really on the very bottom in terms of skill and knowledge to any remotely active forum poster.

tl;dr - the average is not where we think it is, it's considerably lower and dropping all the time. People play poorly more often than they play well. Hashmal is an easy encounter to separate someone who knows the basics of gameplay from someone who doesn't care to.

For this one I can blame screen resolution since I've switched monitors. The flame arm isn't visible with max zoom and by the time alliance running, it's already too late. Rabanastre requires bare minimum 1080 height, 1600x900 isn't enough. The other way is if you used addons or graphics driver tools to change the zoom.

This is my issue as well. I simply cannot see him unless I have the camera at a very odd angle and by the time I realize I need to change my camera and chase everyone else, like you said, it's too late. Even adjusting the camera position doesn't save it. I need what WoW has - like a four mile long zoom rate lmao.

Regarding the above 2 posts, just start heading for the middle as soon as you see him jump away. There's plenty of time to move from there once you've done a circle with the camera to figure out what side is safe, even more so with sprint.

Those positionals aren't going to hit themselves, all I can do is pray that a tower doesn't fall on my head

    I don't. I'm a god. Worship me.

Well, okay, I died on my first run because I went in completely blind. Still a god, tho. Holla.

It’s usually me not paying attention if I do mess up at that part. The towers? Like when they fall on people? That doesn’t happen to me.

There's a few reasons I occasionally die on Hashmal:

    - Latency (With Rab, it always seems 50/50 whether or not I get some decent latency on Hashmal for some reason)

    - Purple AoE's going off on the floor, with blue AoE's going off over them (I can't physically see the purple markers, which makes me wish SE would let us choose colors for AoE indicators)

    - Just being unlucky/not paying attention and ending up on one far side of the arena, no sprint, as fire fist is coming for that side and trying to make the mad dash over.

    - Sometimes, players just get me killed (Surrounded by purple markers that were all overlapping, so incredibly difficult for someone with my color-reading issues to mark out the one, slightly, lighter spot to stand on)

Latency is my main killer now, though. The rest I found workarounds/remind myself of them. Since, after Quake IV opening it'll be a short time for purple circles, so I stand a bit away from the raid and that pretty much works all the time.

I think the flame hands and the towers mess the most people up. Both are easy if you know what you are doing, but people just wanna be carried sometimes.

I occasionally die to a tower if he's at like 1-2% and I think we can burn him but I get smacked and die then he does. It's 100% me and I need to pay attention lol.

From what I've seen it's mostly people tunnel visioning. They focus.too much on their own deeps that they ignore mechanics. Stop trying to kill the command tower and hit the sand orb please!

That aside I have no idea how people continue to due from the falling pillars. I only ever got crushed once and that was because I tunneled trying to heal my team. The fight is easy if you do what you're supposed to do.

I once had the mt on my team who decided that it would be a good idea to stand on the completely wrong side of the field when the fire fist came up. He promptly died to the DoT because he didnt bother with a cooldown. It's not even like he tried to save himself. He did this every fire fist.

I do mostly think it's people having tunnel vision though. I've seen a team try to burn Hashmal from 20% as golems were spawned. Yeah that led to a wipe...
