Blue Mages are the one Final Fantasy job that you can't use "Well they were like this in the other games" because they've been everything in the other games. They heal, they tank, they do damage, they buff. They use lances, whips, swords and forks. They wear every kind of armor. Blue Mages are a blank canvas, and if the FFXIV team could fit them into whatever role they want. Other than learning enemy skills, Blue Mages have no long term traditions holding them down, because every game handles them differently.
