Needless to say, the story cutscenes in FFXIV are aussum... almost any NPC Talk is showed in ingame cutscenes which i think is a good thing. (although just a bit more voice acting would be cool, but is not a must)
what was'nt that good in within the story missions in my opinion was:
- missions haven't been challenging enough
- time sink within story missions in form of "Run from point A to point B to talk to the other NPC... and walk back then to point A"
- implement more different, more creative quest steps than just killing a monster or talking to an npc
- implement more "charismatic" heroes within the story line, like we see in offline final fantasy games
some ideas:
Bounty Hunter Missions [Killtasks] for big grind PT's
- players who are looking for grind groups can look for bounty hunter killtasks on the bulletin boards in each tavern. (Like we have it in Final Fantasy 12)
Killtasks are similiar to guildleves but dont offer that much bonus exp. Within these killtasks the group is able to gain bonus exp for killing massive monsters of a specific monster type and level (for example Dragons at lv 55 at the Amalj'ah outpost.. up to numbers of 80/100/150 mobs per killtask) .. as a reward the group gains exp bonus per mob extra while grinding and a specific gil reward when completing the killtask.
there is also a chance of receiving a trophae appropriate to the monster type of the killing task. the monster trophae can placed within your moogle flat.
like that:

Quests
- Increasing all quest exp in general (its too low to be profitable)
- A system to share Quests between party members
- increasing the difficulty of Basic quests in general
- more different types of quests.. (Protecting a caravan, collecting stuff, creating stuff, killing a boss monster, rescue a non playable character..)
- combine quests with some instances
Level Caps for all Instances
- to make instances more challanging create a Level cap for all instances
if your char is above the level cap you will automatically be downgraded to the maximum level of the instance (like the system that we had in FFXI)
an advantage of that system is also that you can help low level players to level in low level instances like toto rak or if you want to revisit those instances on your own.
- increase the time for clearing the instances (to counteract speed runs) or remove it fully
Yoshida said he enjoyed "Skyrim" the Game... why do not make Final Fantasy more Open World orientaed? which could be an advantage in comparison to all standard MMOrpgs from today..
for example:
Implement more Open World content - REAL OpenWorld Bosses.
- REAL Big Open World bosses, where you need more than 4 groups to kill them.
(Dragons etc.)
- they shouldnt be there all the time.. it should be announced on the whole server when the specific openworld mob appears.
"The big Dragon landed in his nest" ... to make a real event out of it.
