Help me get started on SCH (Lv60)

Just now trying SCH out for first time. It seems pretty cool. Got first healer up to 70 few weeks ago on WHM. Love WHM!

My SCH is already 60 cus of 60 SMN. I really don't get Galvanize and how it resets. I'm thinking I need to always have Adlo on the tank...But this effects seems to reset sometimes and other times it doesn't. Does it only reset when it lands a crit? And can you reset the effect from a Adlo Galv to a Succor Galv?

Oh, and should I just use the healer pet in dungeons? Do you ever need to Support fairly? And when would I ever use Dissipation? I mean isn't the fairly suppose to help heal?

IIRC, a larger one will overwrite a smaller one. So if you land a 1000 heal, it puts up Galvanize. If you then land a 998 heal, it won't replace the first one. If it's 1001, it will.

I'm thinking I need to always have Adlo on the tank...
You do not. Aldo is MP expensive, you don't need to use it all the time. You can use it when you know big damage is about to happen and someone might not survive without it, if you're out of Aetherflow, or with Deployment Tactics to spread it to more people (a deployed Crit Aldo blocks insane amounts of damage). But a lot of the time you're better off casting some DPS and using Lustrate & Fairy healing, especially during lighter damage.

I also like to use it pre-pull, as it means no healing is necessary for a while which makes things that much smoother if the tank runs off to gather bigger groups. You can use Swiftcast for this in a group that is moving fast.

But this effects seems to reset sometimes and other times it doesn't. Does it only reset when it lands a crit?
As above, when it results in a bigger shield. Due to RNG, one cast may be smaller than another and not reset. A crit will pretty much always overwrite a non-crit because it's going to be significantly larger.

Note that generally there's no reason to ever *want* to overwrite it. If Galvanize is there, let it do its job and absorb damage. It's pretty unusual that you'd need to replace one that is already there, especially since in that case the person likely isn't missing much HP anyway. An exception might be if it's about to run out and a damage spike is incoming, but usually this isn't something you should be doing.

And can you reset the effect from a Adlo Galv to a Succor Galv?
The rules work the same either way, so given that Aldo is significantly more powerful, this doesn't seem likely to happen very often.

Eos is your go-to for healing output, as Whispering Dawn is quite strong (especially with Rouse) and the other effects are helpful. If you've got the healing well under control, Selene does give a group DPS buff to speed things up. Selene is also useful on fights like Exdeath normal, where Doom happens once at the start and never again. Selene can remove both of them (so you don't need Esuna), after which you can switch to Eos.

And when would I ever use Dissipation? I mean isn't the fairly suppose to help heal?
You won't use Dissipation often. It can be useful in certain really high intensity cases where you just need more Aetherflow, or if the fairy is dying a lot (looking at you, Keeper of the Lake's last boss). I almost never use it, personally, but I'm not an elite SCH player. Top tier folks may have a different take.

I'm a WHM main too, but SCH has grown on me a lot. Hope you enjoy it. I'd recommend hitting a HW levelling dungeon like Dusk Vigil first to get a feel for your abilities before you start doing 60+ content. Dusk Vigil is nice because you will have both Lustrate and Indom, which are something you want to work in if you're using less Aldo & Succor.

Aldo is MP expensive and creates a shield called Galvanize. Now being MP expensive doesn't mean you shouldn't ever use it. I use it quite often especially if I'm dungeoning with a new group and I don't know how good they are. Succor is also very MP expensive, but can be worth it when people are fighting in close quarters (like Titan). If they're spread out, which means you won't reach a lot of people, it can be a big waste.

But once a shield is up, it's a waste to reset it (except maybe to replace a succor galvanize with an Aldo galvanize when a tank buster is about to happen). But generally, while Galvanize is still up, use other heals (even Physick if you have to).

Using up MP-expensive spells means knowing how to replenish your MP. There's Lucid, Energy Drain (which uses aetherflow stacks), and calling Aetherflow itself to refill.

Don't be afraid to use your aetherflow stacks as needed, the cooldown is long, but not THAT long. You should be able to use them regularly. Don't refill your aetherflow while you still have some left. If no one needs healing and you need MP, use it on Energy drain, then refill.

While you're learning your own abilities it's "ok" to use Sic. But once you're comfortable enough with the scholar's toolkit, you should make the time to learn to use Obey and placing the pet. For harder content, you don't want your faerie using her skills stupidly.
Either way make sure you allocate space on your hotbars for your pet's skills, Place, and Heel. If you want to use the same location on your hotbar for both Selene and Eos's skills, using macros to swap the icons upon summoning can be very useful.

Dissipation can be really helpful in a bind because the aetherflow abilities are really powerful. It is very much an emergency mechanic to get more healing skills.
Another rare emergency usage is to get MP. Sometimes I might cast lucid dreaming and then die...which means Lucid is still on cooldown, and being rezzed = little MP. Casting a faerie, dissipate her to get more aetherflow stacks, to then spam Energy Drain is one emergency-only way to get MP back.

One slightly more advanced trick to keep in mind.

There's a fairly significantly delay (Roughly a second to be safe) between you applying a Galvanize and it actually taking effect. There are occasions where you can use this to your advantage and of course, there are situations where it can be a bit of a nuisance.

And on the note of overwriting Galvs, if you find yourself in a situation where you're struggling to keep up with healing on the tank and having to chain heal, try get into the habit of alternating Physic and Adlo rather than simply spamming Adlo back to back. It's typically more efficient and will frequently net you more HPS overall if the mobs aren't always breaking the Galv in time. In these situations it's also well worth doing your best to remember to hit Largesse if you have it loaded.

Tridus basically covered it all, but I just wanted to add two points to Dissipation.

    1) You can use it in your opener after you've burned through 6 AF stacks if the raid doesn't require much healing at the beginning. You need to consider the 30s penalty, and ideally you don't want it to force your co-healer to stop DPSing either. This is much more useful at lv70 though where you can use the Quickened Aetherflow trait.

    2) Technically you should use Dissipation towards the end of every fight so you can gain 3 free stacks to push even more DPS. It's one of those no-brainers, but admittedly I forget to do this a lot of the time. :'D

Using Dissipation for its actual intended use is quite rare, and not really something you can plan. Though if you're using it only at the beginning and end, it should be up throughout a fight should you need to hit that emergency button.

Fey illumination will also buff Whispering Dawn. makes it quite usefull in large trash. illumination + rouse + dawn is an pretty strong Regen effect.

Emergency tactics + adlo is also a pretty massive heal especially under illumination and/or largesse. if you're lucky enough to see a crit can be an epic amount of hp on a tank.

the biggest tip though is use obey. and don't leave fairies in sic. selene you can kinda get away with as she'll just keep refreshing wind on cooldown. but eos theres not much worse than watching her pop dawn and illumination when your down to the last mob in a pack.

also if possible get used to placing your fairy and keeping tabs on it. may not seem terribly important but can make a massive difference.
fairys ignore a lot of battle effects and aoes so a placed fairy can continue to cast embrace on a tank while you might be legging it out of that telegraph or doing other mechanics hell even running laps of the arena and fairy will still embrace the tank.. a fairy on heal however will follow your every move and thus be unable to cast embrace if you are moving.
