Mouse Mode issue

This has happened a few times now. I'll be playing along just fine and then all of the sudden, I can't use my mouse anymore. It'll somehow manage to go into what looks like controller mode. My arrow will vanish and that little finger shows up like I'm using a controller. It happens mostly when I call my retainers, but it's happened in other places too. I check my character configuration and it shows that it's still set to Mouse Mode, but it's not acting that way at all.
