I'm at a 1:9 ratio of improving someone's gameplay versus being called various four letter words for trying to help

    nb4 "you were probably mean"

If by mean you mean "If you use Blizz3 at the end of your chain you get a ton of mana back platinum quick" is mean I guess?

You know, I agree with you on the laziness thing, I really do. To be frank, the only reason I even came back for SB was because I made some friends who were very good teachers in ARR and helped me excel by working with me when I was a new 50 scrublord. Because of that, I gained a very positive impression of the community. And maybe I'm just nostalgia-ing hard here, but when I first started when FF14 came out, I never took what higher level/more experienced players told me about my class/job as anything other than constructive criticism, unless they were spewing profanity a sick toddler spews vomit.

I think it has to do with the mindset of the player themselves. I'll be the first to admit I'm way too lazy to teach anything, but if someone asks me a question I will try to answer as best I can without sounding like an arrogant person, but it doesn't always get received that way.

TL;DR: This is just another case of the old adage, "Offense is always taken, never given." Sorry for the novelization of the post.

    You're making suggestions on how someone can improve themselves? E l i t i s t.

You wipe a farm party constantly but you're having fun playing your way. Nah you're fine dude.

This community astounds me at times.
    And toxic. Don't forget toxic.

EDIT: You realistically can't teach them a rotation in the middle of a dungeon. Just ask them to look it up in forums/Reddit. Most of the time they will either ignore you or give you a snarky come back "I do what I want" style. Some people would listen, but the improvement won't happen during my run but after it. We have no obligation to teach either, it's the player responsability to improve themselves. I don't wear a crown or became a mentor myself because I'm not interested on teaching. However, I do have the right to vent if something doesn't meet my expectations and goes horribly wrong.

This video sums it up. If new players(or even long time players) can't be bothered to look up how to play. I don't bother with them.

I agree we should help them improve, but those players should also be responsible for their own actions. I have met so many Dragoons that do not bother with Heavy Thrust, Tanks that refuse to use the defensive buffs when pulling big groups, healers who do not use their buffs and only use 2-4 skills on their hotbar.

If a skill provides 15% increase in damage and you are not using it, this means that you do not care about dealing as much damage as possible. If the underpreformer does not care, why should we?

If you are willing to point out problems but not willing to solve them, you don't get to be self-righteous.

That sums it up nicely. And yes, this is obviously excluding players who are rude and don't want to learn.

The overwhelming majority of people I see in the DF doing whacko things like spamming Rage of Halone nonstop or whatever (like, not even just *most* people... I'm talking about damn near all of them)... are the same people who say absolutely nothing throughout the entire instance and don't give any sort of indication that they're even looking at the chat window, because you can try to instruct them until the dhalmels come home and they will not acknowledge anything you said or change their playstyle whatsoever.

It's not always even a matter of these players being "rude", per se. Most of the time there is just zero reaction. You can't really call a lack of reaction as being rude. It's just nothing.

At some point you just end up being forced to acknowledge that it's more cathartic to spend your typing energy by venting afterward than it is to actually try (and fail) to communicate a better playstyle to all the people that clearly don't give a shit about their playstyle.

I joined a practice group for os1 savage and people were getting upset that it wasn’t cleared in the first try! People started leaving and complaining that they hadn’t watched a video and yes, watching a video can help but you don’t learn unless you play and practice :P

I don't bother helping people anymore. You can be as nice as possible, and they'll still initiate a vote kick because you've broken the fantasy that they're doing great. At best, they'll just ignore you instead.

Still, if you play up to 70 on a job and slogged through all the MSQ stuff and show up to endgame content with no clue, there's not much of an excuse to not have Googled something in the timespan of those hundreds of hours you dropped on the game.

And if you bought jump potions, it's really on you to figure out how to play since you skipped the tutorials.

I honestly don't expect randos to take the time to teach in something that isn't a practice party in the PF because they don't enter roulettes or farm parties expecting to teach (except mentors but that's a whole other thing). On the other hand trying to teach someone who doesn't want to learn is an exercise in frustration that discourages sincere players.

For those who would like to become better at their class, I suggest using the PF to find a mentor. I found an amazing dragoon mentor who was patient and kind and then gifted me a training dummy for my yard to continue practicing.

There are good teachers in this game just don't expect everyone to teach.
