    General levelling

    Hey all,

new to the game and enjoying it and looking for suggestions for exp when i lag behind on story quests, i need 1 or 2 lvls here or there to catch up to the story before i can continue, what other alternatives are there for this? i've heard fates are decent to do in the meantime but i would like to see what else there is.

    Thanks

Palace of the Dead in Quarry Mill is your best bet.

POtD indeed but not everyone likes it and if you fail to kill the last boss you don't get any XP.

Roulettes and your current level dungeon runs. Though the dungeon should be +-1 level of yours to get the proper XP.

I wouldn't call Fates a good XP source honestly.

Leveling roulette every day should help you keep up with the story. Also Palace of the Dead until level 60.

As BLM main myself, I haven't been successful soloing any potd floors. I've only successfully solo'd 51-60 on RDM. If you're looking for a POTD buddy, lemme know (discord: ..Maple..#5890). I don't mind running it with people. Once you hit floor 51, you can just spam it over and over and it'll give you great xp up until I thiiiink high lvl 50 or 60.

That's not to say clearing a lot of floors as a BLM is impossible, because it has been done, it's just very difficult since you don't have the defensive options available to you that other classes do. You have to be super careful with your pomanders (items you get from chests) and having lots of potions, etc ready to go, as well as being mindful of how to clear the floors (how to pull enemies to easier locations, watching for roamers, etc).

I guess you are already doing it, but just in case accept all level appropiate quests you can find. In Heavensward and Stormblood content I didn´t find it necessary, but in the ARR content you will be hard pressed to have the appropiate MSQ level even if you do every quest.

Hunting logs are another way of getting EXP, and since they're done in the overworld, you can do it while waiting in the duty queue. FATEs are okay for a waiting-time activity too - they can be dropped without any consequences, give you credit for partial completion, and you might even be able to pick it up again if your duty is something quick like a trial or guildhest.

(Personally I like to do everything in the game at least once, and there's usually little fragments of 'world-building' storytelling at the start and end of each FATE. Any time you see an NPC with a green name-label walking around in the field, they'll be "setting the stage" for a FATE - or possibly leaving at the end of one - and it's worth following them to see what they do!)

Talking of guildhests, while they're not great for leveling long-term, there is the EXP bonus for doing them as each class for the first time. I'm not sure how efficient they are, but a bonus is a bonus.

There are also the beast tribe quests to unlock - I'm not sure if that's linked to level or to GC rank, but you get them from the various GC captains at around your current level (L44 Black Mage as your forum info currently says). Once those are unlocked, they're daily repeatable quests which are usually a bit tedious, but still that's extra EXP and again it's something to do in the overworld while waiting in a dungeon queue.

I'm leveling a few classes from Lv30-50 at the moment and I'm tending to queue for the two highest-available dungeons plus whatever guildhests I haven't got the bonus for yet, then fill in the wait time doing hunting logs. Also tribe quests once I get leveled up enough.

+1 on the beast tribe quests. They give you some extra side-stories, as well as bonus minions and mounts if you keep at it and rank them up. They're also - when ranked up enough - a good source for certain crafting mats if you're into that sort of thing, and offer dyes that are hard to get anywhere else (and therefore go for a fortune on most MBs). At 44, going by your Main Class note, you can unlock all the ARR beast tribes (note the Ixali are for crafters)

    Here's some extra info
