As far as I can tell commode only means toilet in the US. No furniture store seems to sell something called a commode that isn't a portable toilet chair. If it meant dresser sometimes and toilet other times like it seems to in England this probably wouldn't be a topic.

Yeah being in Canada, a chest of drawers was the first thing that came to mind.

I would be nice if they changed it. It’s not like there aren’t any other words that would fit the bill. They can choose another term that doesn’t mean something strange/unfitting to any English speaker. I’ve played another American made game where they have changed initial names for things because they meant something totally different in another English speaking country. I don’t think asking if they could change the name is an unreasonable request.

If they don’t they don’t, it’s not a big deal, but still worth putting it out there.

Not french, not canadian, not american here o/ but commode in spanish gets translated as "cómoda", and a "cómoda" is usually the furniture where you put your clothes. So it doesn't bother me that it's called like that, what bothers me is that it could've been way better, like a Log or something.

Yeah, same. However, I was surprised they didn't name it either log or wardrobe. Guess they tried to sound original with its name. Now I understand why some English speakers were somewhat uncomfortable with it, lol.

Actually, cómodo in spanish means toilet too. It looks like a potty chair, but for adults.

In portuguese, "cómoda" is just a chest of drawers where you store clothes. Was kinda confused about the title of this thread as I had no idea what this term means for people in other english speaking countries.

A better and more international English term would be to call it a Glamour Wardrobe. The use of commode as a chest holding a chamber pot actually originates in England with washstands. It then extended to the commode chair. Finally in the US it went from being used for commode chairs/wooden toilets to a euphemism for the flush toilet. To paraphrase an old George Bernard Shaw saying about the English language, "A group of peoples separated by a common language."
