A better and more international English term would be to call it a Glamour Wardrobe. The use of commode as a chest holding a chamber pot actually originates in England with washstands. It then extended to the commode chair. Finally in the US it went from being used for commode chairs/wooden toilets to a euphemism for the flush toilet. To paraphrase an old George Bernard Shaw saying about the English language, "A group of peoples separated by a common language."

Well, I made a comment to Fern that the Moogle named "Puki" was offensive because "puki" in Tagalog means p_ssy. He had no idea about that.

But is also means cabinet or chest of drawers....
If people want to think of it as a toilet, that is their prerogative.

I truly do not care what they call it.
I do hope they build on it and make it better.

commode is one of those words that has strangely varying meanings

it's a style of women's hat that almost looks like a 1-sided miter
it's a low chest of drawers
and finally it was a chamber pot holder named that because it resembled the furnishing of the same name

somehow the toilet one is what stuck in american english and is now also the name for those things that look like a walker with a toilet bowl in it. Probably nowhere else in the world will they not think of a small dresser when they see commode

I'm fond of the Japanese naming. Mirage instead of Glamour. Mirage Dresser instead of Glamour Commode. They all mean the same thing, but I like the word mirage :C

A mirage is usually something you see that isn't really there.. which kind of fits, but a Glamour usually refers to a spell cast on someone to make them appear differently then they really are which REALLY fits. It's a very subtle difference but I feel they chose the better word.

Now they might have picked commode because they were going with the original french theme (ala Armoire), and while it does inspire thoughts of toilets in my head since I grew up in the US.. I'm not really going to care what they call it as long as it's useful. I do feel "Dresser" might have been a better pick though. Or Glamour Catalogue.

I don't think I've ever heard glamour used that way. It makes me think of fancy fashion photography.
