Please don't call it a Glamour Commode!

    Dear Devs,

Depending on your region and age, Commode means toilet. I don't really want to deal with the Glamour Toilet.

    Thank you.

EDIT: Not a troll thread. If they don't change the name I won't be mad, I figured that there was a good chance that the use of the word wasn't common outside the US, and it looks like I was right. Thus, there is a chance the mostly Asian dev team didn't realize the dual meaning. Since they claim they read the forums, I figured it was at least of some use.

If it's called the Glamour Toilet, maybe Square's trying to tell us our glamour goes in the toilet.

    OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO--

Okay but in seriousness I think it's funny that it ended up like that.

I'm getting a feeling that calling the Commode a 'Glamour Toilet' will be appropriate in the future.

There's always that one negative guy when it comes to a new system being formed.

o.0 Age has nothing to do with it, a commode is a chamber pot holder.

The funny things that get lost in translation perhaps? Did they go from Japanese to French then from French to English?

    I'll just leave this here.

The fashion for integrating Asian lacquer panels (decorated with a resin varnish made from the sap of a tree) into European furniture was at its height in the mid-18th century when this commode (chest of drawers) was made.

In French, a commode is another term for furniture.

Yep. As a person born in Quebec, Canada, the first thing that comes to mind when I read that word is furniture where you store clothes.

So to mimic OP's request in a fashion...

Please SE, don't change it. Depending on your region and age, commode means furniture. Thanks.

Hence my question about their method of translating from Japanese to English

Exactly, also it's something the localization team are aware of, that a seemingly innocent word can have a wildly different meaning or context in a different country - it's something they try to take into account but simply cannot overcome every time (a while ago a similar situation occurred where an innocent and legitimate name for a BTN tool was revealed to be a slang term for a certain part of the male anatomy in another country (Philippines I believe it was?), and yes, there were player demands that be changed as well). So it's just something you have to just live with and accept it as just part of the English language's quirks.

(I mean, us Aussies don't get annoyed every time we hear an American say "we're rooting for you!" either way - 'root' as a verb in American English means simply to encourage or cheer someone on, while in Australian English however it is a slang term that means "to have sex". Quietly chuckle like schoolgirls behind your backs maybe... ).
