Help/advice with gearing up PALADIN!

Hey!

I'm very close to ending the SB msq and i've got 1900 creations stocked up :3

I'm thinking of gearing up my Pal but i don't know which piece of gear i should spend my creations on first. I believe people often go for a weapon first, but if i did that, should i get the shield as well? And when i'm done spending 700-1k on sword/shield (or if I don't), what should I buy next?

I would say get your weapon and shield first (weapons are directly tied to a tank's ability to hold hate), and then buy your body piece. Be sure to upgrade both as soon as possible using your weekly Rabanastre token (you can purchase Roborants with them now to upgrade your weapon; they're no longer locked behind V3S).

So sword+shield > body piece > ... ? I wasn't sure if shield was really useful and was wondering if i could only buy the sword and then grab body piece right after

And what about after i get body? (with my 1900 i'll be able to buy all 3 pieces instantly)

I would get both Sword and Shield, but upgrade the Sword first. Then purchase the body and upgrade it next. In the meantime, definitely make use of Omega normal and Rabanastre for other 320/330 pieces (Omega NM is unlocked--320, Rabanastre is still once a week--330), or invest in crafted pieces if you have the money.

After that, I would personally focus on left side first: pants after your body, then you can choose between feet/head/gloves depending on stats you desire or a build you're following. Tank BiS is technically pentamelded 320 accessories, but they aren't required.

I know that tanks have 3 separate builds that vary based on what you want out of it. If you are planning on doing Savage, either of them work. Let me hunt up a PLD guide I found on Reddit that had links to all three builds.... (edit incoming)

So tyvm for your answers/time and your link, i'll take a closer look at it!

And don't worry about upgrading the sword first, if what i read is correct 1 roborant upgrades both the shield and sword ^^

It depends on what your currently geared with, the weapon is usually the best upgrade because of WD and strength going up. But if you are rocking a really low piece of gear I would suggest prioritizing strength gains over anything else other than weapon (replacing a 270 belt with a 330 will be better than replacing a 320 chest with a 330). After weapons just prioritize increasing your strength stat as much as possible as this increases your damage and therefore enmity.

If you want to buy the sword, you should also buy the shield. You can only upgrade both at the same time from 330 to 340
