The FFXIV community is fast becoming like Overwatch

    https://youtu.be/adsOgYcVtDY

This video should never have had to be made, yet lazy-minded "pros" and e-sports wannabes have made endgame and other content nearly undesirable to run due to these silly metas being tossed about as though they were gospel.

Lately, I've been watching YouTube videos decrying the state of a different game's community: Overwatch. From the outside looking in, that community seems to be what the FFXIV community is quickly becoming. All that's really missing is the throwing, and we all know that's only a fake d/c away.

Match throwing exists in the feast quite often

Also just to clarify, you did watch the video right? He just explains what meta is so you can be more informed about the topic. Metagaming has been a thing, will always be a thing, no matter what the game is, if there is some form of variation available. Its something you can't get rid of and thats it. Whats the biggest take though is that while metagaming is always going to be a thing, most of the time it is not necessary.

As for regarding the topic, there will always be more ignorant people who don't fully understand what meta means, and because they don't understand what it means they make it sound like either a) mandatory for everything or b) the worst thing ever that will kill the game.

I used to raid at a high level back in the days of Sunwell Plateau in WoW. I found it a lot of fun during that time period since people were more easy going, I feel. Serious and progression focused yet not to the same horrid extent that they are today where the slightest mistake results in removal and static applications are just as in-depth as job interviews even for so called 'casual' groups. The obsession with the ideal 'meta' has always existed to some extent yet the rise in obnoxious streamers pushing such things has only led to it gaining more traction, unfortunately.

Fact of the matter is there will always be jerks in games who proclaim to the heavens that there the meta police and to be honest i just ignore them lol i especially ignore people who refer to me by job acronyms and not my name i meen is ruby so hard to type quickly (sorry that was a side rant) anyway yes there will always be a meta but the problem is that no one can agree on just one meta and that's the confusing/frustrating thing with it and if this makes no sense i apologise I've been awake for like 26 hours now so yea

Metas come from job inbalance. If hard content can be easier cleared with only a certain job composition, don't blame players for wanting to make things easier, blame devs for not properly balancing. Same applies to PvP, where its easier to get wins with certain jobs, or even dungeons where it's much faster to complete with certain jobs.
For example there's 56 summoners (including repeated clears by the same player) completed Ultimate but only 1 black mage, 64 ninjas but only 2 monks (data from fflogs). Guess what jobs statics will prefer if they want to succeed.

atleast people stopped using the same dps class, as it was meta during 1.0

4-5 archer mogry farm groups or full lancer ifrit groups, which got replaced by full blm ifrit groups at a later point

I also think, that the devs mentioned that every content in the game is doable by every party composition, so 4x sam, dbl warrior, dbl whm should be possible aswell for unending bahamut

Wasn't there a DRK in the world first Ult. Coil group who, as I recall, when asked why he chose to go as a DRK his reply was "DRK is fun to play"?

Play what you like. Strive to be as good at it as you can be. And if someone chooses to limit their thinking to what the job can do and not what you can do, either style on 'em or leave them to their ignorance.

Well some people go for server, worlds first, etc or to get faster clear times (faster farm times) etc.

This game has classes (jobs) with different play style and a lo of skills / spells. Balancing is extremely hard, there will always be a 'best' class, a month later they will buff the 'weakest' class and then that one will be op...

I do not understand the issue here. You have blacklist for something. people that annoy you with meta or won't invite you just put them on blacklist and move on? you do not want to play with them anyway.

I do main a Paladin but I have no issues going as WAR or DRK, even though 'omg DRK is useless'.

Exactly this, for me too PLD & DRK are just so much fun to play.
WAR is really in a great spot right now and they are super good but sorry I don't really have fun to play them... WAR has always been something I didn't really like to play.
Same with PLD, they where bad in HW and 'omg you noob you play PLD' but I've always had the most fun when playing either PLD/DRK and I've always been able to carry my own weight and do my stuff.

    Enjoyment > skill > Meta

    M - Most

    T - Tactic

That's all it means. Yes, you can clear any and all content without the mathematically best job composition, but using what's best is gonna give you an advantage.
Sure, personal skill on the job outweighs the advantage heavily, e.g. an amazing MNK player is gonna lead to more raid DPS than a shitty DRG. Nobody's debating that there are more important factors than job composition. It's just an advantage you have or not. Some people don't wanna join a static that doesn't have that advantage. Some don't even wanna join a PF that doesn't give them that advantage. All up to personal decisions.
Friendly reminder that no matter how many people prefer playing the meta, you can never be forced to play a job you don't want to. No, you're not being forced to play a job because no static or PF wants you as your job. That's just you choosing that playing a different job is worth getting to run whatever content you've not been able to.
