A strange convatation to a FC invite

I have no idea what to think right now..

"So I was trying to invite people to my FC when I got the following conversation":

FC leader> "I was wondering if you 2 would like to exp faster, see if you 2 join my fc, you get a 15% exp bonus for being in it. Also comes with a large house to hang out in"
The person being recruited> Isn't that cheating?
FC leader> how is it cheating? that is how the game was made
The person being recruited> that seems like an unfair advantage to me
FC leader> why do you say that? a lot of people are in fcs using it, and ofc nice house to hang out at hehe
FC leader> it is a pretty standard thing
The person being recruited> no thank you, i do not want to get banned for cheating
FC leader > ???????? *shows link to loadstone explaining FCs*
FC leader > its not cheating

*ends there, no reply back*

How can anyone think a FC buff is cheating? or joining a FC?

Well, the high level in most of my jobs now make those purely glamour items but the point was indeed made.

The experience boost works if you're synced down to a relevant level. Before I hit all 70 I kept them on-hand and put them on if leveling roulette put me in low level dungeons

I would think it was the poor phrasing on your leader's part. Maybe if he'd explained it was a buff you guys maintained constantly? The wording could confuse a true newbie to MMO's.

All I could think of was Illegal Danish's gnome that would go around asking "HEY! Wanna join may guild!?" as I read this.

More likely they had no interest in joining your FC so decided to troll your FC leader a bit.

I agree - it sounds to me like the issue is in the phrasing: "if you 2 join my fc, you get a 15% exp bonus for being in it". Potential interpreted emphasis on "my" FC like it's something unusual that they have set up and are giving directly to their members, not a standard game buff that can be applied to any FC. An explanation like "the game lets you apply special buffs to your members, and we're using one that boosts EXP" would have made it a lot clearer.
