I suppose I should stop using those EXP boost scrolls from my adventurer squadron and food bonuses too...
Well actually if I did that I would have more stuff to lvl right now... >.>

This thread is confusing. So is exp bonus cheating or what lol
If a candidate starts odd questioning it is better move on, you are inviting troubles in your FC.
If were myself the recruiter, will had just moved to next candidate without even reply to such odd questions.
It’s not cheating. Free companies can add special bonuses that apply to all their members. (“Company actions” I think they’re called.) I haven’t read the full explanation, as I don’t organise it myself, but our FC has the actions “increased EXP from battle” and “reduced teleport cost” active at all times, and they appear as status icons on the top of the screen like normal buffs and debuffs.
I agree too, if they never played an MMO before they might not even know what a buff even means or stands for yet, if that's the case then it could be seen as cheating. Then again too it could be an individual ideal of what they view as cheating. I mean for all I know they could see it as a 15% increase to XP which means leveling faster which in turn means over powering quests. Like as in "cheating" themselves from the leveling and growing experience.I agree - it sounds to me like the issue is in the phrasing: "if you 2 join my fc, you get a 15% exp bonus for being in it". Potential interpreted emphasis on "my" FC like it's something unusual that they have set up and are giving directly to their members, not a standard game buff that can be applied to any FC. An explanation like "the game lets you apply special buffs to your members, and we're using one that boosts EXP" would have made it a lot clearer.
I don’t think the terminology is the problem - I’m also new to MMOs and easily worked out what “buff” means from context. I think the problem is in the presentation - “my FC gets a special bonus that other people don’t” - which sounds suspicious. I’d think it very strange if I was the person trying to be recruited (and hadn’t been in a FC before to know how it worked), and may well have had the same conversation due to the way it was described.
Explain “it’s a bonus spell we can apply to our FC” and it makes sense. Explain (paraphrasing from your conversation) “it’s how the game was made, and lots of people are using it” and it sounds like a dubious exploit. Linking them to a whole page on FCs and expecting them to find the information about something you’ve not-actually-described doesn’t sound like a fair way to explain it either.
I'd have to say the explanations you gave left room for wrongful interpretation. Also, if someone linked me an entire page on something I wasn't especially interrested in after an inadequate explanation, I wouldn't bother opening it up to read it. Too much trouble to sift through it to find whatever part I could only assume that person wanted me to educate myself on, so I'd assume they were of a "git gud" mentality and ignore it. If they kept on about it I might blacklist. If you want someone to understand something, you have to be the one to explain it to them, and you need to do so clearly in a way that not only do they grasp what you're trying to say, but also are interested in testing it out for themselves. Wording your reply defensively (But everyone's doing it! It's how the game was designed...)and then linking what you should be explaining isn't going to do that.
