Why Does It Feel Like Poor Play Is Acceptable (I'm Venting.)

When they went and nerfed Steps of Faith because it'd have blocked people out of expansion content, it was the probably the biggest indicator that being a poor performer was "okay".

Which I found funny because I'd never had a wipe on that with a PUG until about 2 months after it was added and I was one of the first people to clear it on my server.

The same happened with Shinryu in SB.

We need to gate more stuff behind trials that require ppl to actually think and have at least basic knowledge of what a battle mechanic is and how their job is supposed to perform... >.>

This isn't your 90's offline console RPG where you can just cheese everything with your gameshark, game genie, or action replay. I sorely miss a great deal of the additional variables from FFXI where damage types and elements had an extremely noticeable impact on damage dealt and received and making the leader of one of my linkshells delvl every time we went to sky because he would never get an exp buffer :3

Well if your running a roulette its random, you don't/cant control everyone ever and not everyone thinks like you do get over it that's just life at its finest. If you approach the game with the cold unfeeling approach of a working a job optimally maybe you shouldn't run roulettes? In the end all you can truly control is yourself if non optimal runs offend you try a static or FC only group.

You need only read these forums for a brief space to learn that for a lot of players, expecting something called "effort" is entirely synonymous with being an "elitist". How dare you expect a tank to hold threat! How dare you expect a WHM to do more than throw out Regen every 20 seconds! How dare you suggest a MNK actually land his positionals! How dare you tell that BLM to stop spamming Blizzard II! I've played many MMOs in my time and I think XIV is the only one I've ever seen where people try so hard to play poorly or to excuse poor play. I thought we were talking about truly low-skill players and not the mediocre. This is another problem I have with articulation here on the forums: People conflate mediocrity=bad when that's not even what the word means.

It's a mix of reasons, really. People carry others. I had a person I met who started the game when her daughter showed her. Her FC literally dragged her white mage the whole way to 70 without showing rotation. It was awful seeing her struggling because they didn't teach her basics.
A lot of people also don't WANT help. I've been through dungeons where I notice someone is having trouble, I ask if they want some tips, and I get my head chewed off.
Finally, some people DO want to get better but can't seem to find help or get elitists who would rather laugh at then teach. So they just go by with minimal effort.

Without naming any names, I encountered a PLD in Deltascape 3.0 Savage during the first few weeks it was out who just randomly used their weapon skills uncombo'd. They were doing next to no damage and it baffled me how someone could get that far and never have learned what their attacks do or what combos are. We didn't clear with them, but I recently saw them back at it again. Months later, and now a handful of O3S clears under their belt, surely they've improved a bit? Nope. Still doing the exact same thing, next to no damage and using random uncombo'd WS's (this time on DRK instead of PLD). If this game is designed in such a way that 7 people will always be able to push someone like that through even the "hardcore" content then what hope is there really?

What gets me is when people go into the savage fights with poor knowledge of their job. I have been trying to help random groups get V4s clears. I've had whms who use medica 2 as their main source of healing. Aoe damage? Let's spam medica 2! Oh darn now I'm out of mp >3>

This is a thing from making the game too easy, thus too easy to carry people

The reverse of design will effect players, just look at old ffxi. Was a lot less tolerated there.

If you got the clear then time wasn't wasted.

15-18 mins = GOOD PT! lets toss out coms to each other like Oprah gives away cars
19-25 mins = acceptable
26-35 mins = wonders how people get to this level, esp if "expert" is taking this long
36 mins + likely a troll premade, people standing around not doing nothing

Anything over 30+ is time wasted, there is no reason it should take that long, unless the group is sitting there for a tank replacement (ask ls etc after 2 mins though, works wonders)

If people are taking a long time because they are not listening to advice (like on a 30+ min pace for clear), a kick is valid.
