That's nice, but unless you are willing to pay for upgrading everything so they can unlock servers and keep them that way.... then what you want or don't want is completely irrelevant to the situation.
What attitude is that? That I'm just telling it as it is? That I'm not sugarcoating anything? If I recall correctly when this thread first started, I did address what you said and directly spoke on what you were saying. Remember when you referenced other MMOs and I brought up how WoW locks servers themselves due to overcrowding? But sure...let's just go with every single comment I've posted in this thread had an attitude. That works for me. Now commenting on the rest of this post, sure, everybody would love to have better servers. Truth be told, a good number of us want a better engine, not the struggling holdover from 1.0 that we have right now. But to say that Balmung has never crashed Aether (and it seems you've been saying this for a few pages) in spite of more experienced players who have been here since Besaid and Fabul were separate servers and have experienced said crashes is thoughtless at best.
This is the kind of attitude in people, especially recently, that's very irritating. TheAngelneer never "attacked" you. She was far less rude than I was and she answered your question. It's hard to see this thread as anything other than a troll thread because you still say "people did not answer the question" when the question has been answered for 17 pages.
Your attitude is incredibly off putting and no one cares how much you want to play with your friends. You and your friends should not dictate how the game runs. This selfish notion of "it's inconvenient to me so it has to change" is so ridiculous. You should deal with it, not expect it to change because you want it to.
Balmung is locked because it is OVERPOPULATED. Does that make sense?
Ah, and how did I ever forget to comment on this part. Your thread is literally filled with posts suggesting what to do. From what I've seen here, it looks like it isn't that you and your friends aren't unable to play with each other - it's that you and your friends are unwilling to do something as simple as either a server transfer to Zalera or them making a new alt on Zalera. Last I checked, a standard sub nets you a total of 8 character slots per server. So what's the issue? Are your friends unwilling to make a new character to play with you? Or are they using an entry subscription...which still allows them to make one character per sever, and 8 on their account?

I would much rather SE putting money toward actual content that everyone can enjoy, rather than put towards something that only a portion of the player base will actually benefit from. I would also prefer them to uprade their system so we can finally have certain features that we all can enjoy. Also, SE is a large company that creates and puts out a large variety of games. XIV isn't their only game, and the others take a lot of money to create/update as well. Unfortunately for us, the money made from XIV alone doesn't all go to making XIV better. It goes to different projects SE has going on. Yes they have a lot of money, but we cannot expect them to spend it all on us, and they will not spend money where they don't find it beneficial to them as a whole.
Mods should just lock this thread. Out of all the answers here, you even have that one guy who went into full detail about why unlocking Balmung is a bad idea.
But OP here goes on to say no one answered his question. What can you with a person who just flat-out refuses to understand the reasons behind the lock? You might as well talk to a wall at this point.
I'm done here lol. Mods pls lock and let this thing drown in the abyss of dead threads. Thanks.
Healing DRK is literally... the same since ShB. The reason why people think it's a meme to heal nowadays because DRK receives very little to no buff to their sustainability vs 3 other tanks getting something useful. If you're capable of healing DRK back in ShB (or any tanks), then you'll heal EW DRK just fine.
If they were really his friends, they'd pay for his sub.Ah, and how did I ever forget to comment on this part. Your thread is literally filled with posts suggesting what to do. It’ll stay locked until SE decides the pop is low enough to unlock it.
(The above should be the only reply to any thread about Balmung being unlocked).
First, Aether's a datacenter. Balmung's individual zones have crashed. While not a population issue, there was that fishing bug recently that would bring down worlds until SE first removed the spots, then finally addressed the issue.
Second, Balmung going down wouldn't just clear up connections. Servers don't work that way. Clients will try to reconnect. They'll also all get kicked back to the Lobby server, which hey, that's "Aether" there. And well...overload the lobby server and there goes the entire datacenter's access to get into every world on that datacenter.
Third, these servers aren't 10 years old. Assuming that SE recycled all their servers, the ones used in the now 7 year old 1.0 would have stayed in Japan. I kinda do this for a living, but you generally try to avoid shipping heavy expensive hardware overseas. Aether was previously in Montreal and now it's in California. Likely, they didn't ship the physical machines either and leased out hardware or just bought new machines. But a bigger and better machine can't always fix these issues. There's still packet processing and packet broadcasting to take into account, which is why the world is locked.
tldr: So like I explain on page 7, you can and do hit physical limitations, whether processing, bandwidth, latency, or a combination based on how many people are connected where. There's a minimal game experience that needs to happen and Balmung already impacts that. Until its population decreases enough for it to be considered stable in the long-term, it's not gonna open.
I can see it opening up in 4.2 at the earliest and later. They already opened Gilgamesh up and unless they lock it back up, it's population will grow just as big and they'd have no reason now to unlock Balmung.
When they first announced these locks, it just seemed like a way for them to soften the expansion hype causing server instability and double bonus of mitigating the amount of people rushing for houses later down the line. Just a tad bit more patience really. They'll open it in a few patches, if not the next one.
