Tresure Maps

Hey All,

Had a question for Famfrit. Do people still go after treasure maps and also are they even relevant anymore? I know when gathering mats I usually find one and I put it up in the MB. So, I'm sure that answers my question, but I am more-so asking for myself. Is it pretty good, cool, fun to get into? I have never done it before. Is this what leads you to the rooms where you roll and get double or nothing or something like that? I think the canals of ulznar or something? I've heard about how it's lucrative with gil if you get lucky. Are there any active treasure hunters on Famfrit? Can you school me?

I cannot comment on Famfrit, but I have been doing lvl 70 and 60 maps for 1 month straight on Sarg and they are verrrrrrrry lucrative. Both of those grant portals, LVL60 Dragonskin : Aquapolis and lvl 70 Gazelleskin : Lost Canals of Unzair, in which you can also get an Unhidden Thiefs Map, which takes you to the Hidden Canals of Unzair, which is like the regular canals but on steroids lootwise. By far the funnest things to do in my 4 years of FFXIV.

Cool. Do you have any tips for someone JUST starting out I've dug up PLENTY of maps and I find them all the time. I remember hearing back in 2.X you could only do 1 per (X) not sure if it was week or day or something like that. Any restrictions that I should know about? Do you need to bring potions or something like that? I am also aware that you need a party to clear most stuff. Can you do cross world? Also, how does it work? Do you kill a mob, get a chest, roll on loot, rinse and repeat?

Ok so Im going to just start this so I can edit it.

You can have 1 map open at a time, so most people bring 2, with 1 open and 1 in inventory. When you decipher the map it gives you a location, and you go and find it using the dig command. When you find it open the treasure and mobs will pop, about 3 waves usually. When the mobs are gone the map user goes back to chest and opens for random rewards distributed to party members, with the occasional rollable chest, which are usally average loot. Depending on loot rules, I do FFA, and everyone rolls need. Also when opening the chest you have a small chance at recieving a portal. If you get portal, it takes you to the underground, either Aquapolis or Unzair depending on which map.

From here, there floors 1-7. You complete a wave of mobs and then it gives you a chest, again with random loot assigned, and the chance at loot in a rollable chest. Alot of the times, the rolled loot can be anywhere from 10k to 10 million on my server, depending on item and server. Then the map user picks left or right door, which is RNG, to see if they get next floor.

Both maps have variables on each floor, a boss that can randomly appear along with normal mobs, and when you kill he gives random materia, and treasure goblins or stickywhiskers depending on map, that have to be killed asap to get crystals, shards and gil etc..

As each floor gets higher, the mobs get tougher, but not much, and also the odds of rollable loot increases. Floor 6 and 7 seem to always to give loot. Also the gil rewarded gets up to 100k for the final floor.

If you get a Thiefs map for Unzair, that will grant a rollable chest every floor guaranteed, but has 3 doors to choose from intead of 2. It also has a lottery game where you can keep doubling up loot by picking higher or lower on a card game, but this is very rare and random.

My biggest tip: give them time. Do 8-20 at a time to really see the rewards. I have done maps and sometimes walk away with 500k, sometimes 15 million. Dont get frustrated if you dont get the loot, keep doing maps, it will come. You might spend 4 hours and barely get portals and then boom, you get a bunch of portals and go far in the floors. Last weekend I did maps for 12 hours straight and made about the same, 12 million. 10 million of that was in the last 2 maps. Just be patient and they will give back. Also, besides farming them, look at price on MB, usually they are well worth buying for the return.

As for restrictions, just on farming them as a gatherer, not on actually using them.

No cross world parties, sorry. MY map static does lvl 70's with 4 people and lvl 60's with 3, however this is less than most other groups. I see alot of 5-7 man groups for 70's, and 4-5 for 60's. Just keep in mind, the more ppl in party, less random loot and the more people to roll against on the pricey stuff. Conversely, they also take longer to complete, so there is a balance.

Thank you for the Info Abelfei! I don't think I'd be willing to transfer D: I have to many friends on Famfrit and a great FC and a special someone. So, I guess I'm just planted here, but thank you again! Also, My question still stands Famfrit, does anyone ever do these kinds of things?

Abelfei - I may be interested in your map static. Guess is depends on time of day - but I am on your server. Won't be on until Sat though.

As a gather you can get one map a day. I find miner or botanist easier than fisher.

Maps started with HW? It seemed as maps were quite popular and then dropped in how many people were doing them - MB prices dropped significantly. However, since Stormblood the prices are up - especially for some of what I consider the mid-level maps. I don't understand why but peisteskin maps are 45000 gil while Dragonskin - which can give you a trip to the treasure trove - are 10000? Anyone know why?

So lately i've been gathering mid-level maps and selling them..

@NosamKin, I'm thinking it drops better loot and as Abelfei said, some maps will lead you to Aquapolis or Unzair. I'm fairly certain that its just better rewards/tougher mobs/bosses, and chances of going into hidden Unzair. I've got both min and bot up to 70 and I have sold a TON of maps over time, but I had just been thinking of delving into them. I'm gonna get with my FC and see if anyone would be interested. Are there any maps you can solo? I main a 70 nin, and also have a 70 pal. Does it sync you if you do like level 50-60 maps? Also, is it even worth it doing those maps?

I solo maps as a lvl 70 SMN. I can solo all the maps except gazelleskin.

Gazelleskin goes to the Unzair. Only been there a few times. I recommend at least 6 people.

Dragonskin map disclaimer - I can solo the map - but a dragonskin might open the acropolis - and acropolis level syncs - and I can't solo the acropolis. (I've tried) My FC has done it many times with 4 people - usually no problem. The problem is when Areges randomly drops. Then you might want 5 or 6.

All the other maps I can solo - pop the chest - kill the monters - take all the loot - (why share it)

Some Map prices, at least on my server:
Peisteskin map => level 50 => 50000 gil
Dragonskin map => level 60 => 10000 gil - possible trip to acropolis

The difference doesn't make sense - so it must be as you say, the loot. I'll look into the loot lists. Perhaps I should keep those maps
