In this very event, we received a Christmasy orchestrion roll, why not have that be the Starlight Bear's music? It would make it feel more unique and festive

Probably because the Orchestrion Roll track (Starlit Gateway) is just a Christmas-themed remix of Gateway to Paradise, the GATE theme at Gold Saucer, which in itself is a remix in turn of FFVII's chocobo battle theme Electric de Chocobo. As it's basically just a Christmas-cued chocobo theme, no wonder it's not used as the starlight bear mount music, as you're not even riding a chocobo at all but a bear.

And the normal eponymous Starlight Festival music is not suitable either as it's just... too slow and sad themed to be used as mount music, which is probably what Soken felt too. So I don't agree I'm sorry to say, nor do I see SE changing this.

Ramuh's theme for his pony is also fairly slow-paced compared to say, Garuda.

Agreed. Getting tired of all the generic mount music for the special mounts. The Egg mount and the Christmas Bear Mount were almost as disappointing as the fact the devs gave Alte Roite the generic mount music. >.>

I understand coding and resources and whatever, but is it really that hard to give some of the event mounts a nice, different theme? Or at least give the Savage mounts Savage music?

Assuming a simple, reasonable implementation, there is absolutely no reason why they couldn't allocate special music to mounts.
Does the music exist already in the game? Yes, for the egg, bear, or Alte.
Does a system exist in place to allow mounts to have the non-default music? Yes.
The thing is, the mount-music mapping is almost certainly client-side as I can't think of a single reason why it'd be server-side so the issue of resources more or less goes out the window. And even if it was server-side, there's probably just the one table in the database that shows the mount-music connection. Adding the one line there (or 3 to account for all the mounts discussed) will really not be what kills this game.

Yeah, it seems very silly not to have the starlight music. The argument of it being slow is silly, because plenty of other mounts have "slow" music.

In a game where trophies and glamour mean everything, a game that won the guiness award for the most original OST, they should put some effort into making certain mounts unique and honor their reputation. I see nothing wrong with flavoring these mounts with an unique theme, even if the orchestrions exist. That would give them some extra value.
