Snow at the Eorzea city states during starlight

Does it real? mages at each city manipulating the air temperature? Halone?
I'd like to think they hired black mages to influence the aether to create snow at the 3 cities.

So yes devs, please talk to us, we loved this year's starlight a lot but snow at the Eorzea city states deserves clarification. If it's just an illusion we can live with that.

It's very likely to simply be decorative. Seasonal events are in their own little 'bubble' and are mostly just fluff due to being based more around time passing in the real world than time passing in the actual game. As a rough example, we might experience 2-3 different Starlight Celebrations during an expansion's patch cycle yet only a few months pass in regards to the canon lore.

That's very true...time doesn't pass the same way in Eorzea since it depends on updates. Great point
Yeah it's definitely in its own bubble, we could even say that all the seasonal events happened together in a way where we run them all in 1 eorzea year/season.

I feel a bit picky pointing this out but they wouldn't hire Black Mages because of the fact it's forbidden by just about everyone who knows about it, given it's role in the past. Apologies but when considering lore it's an important distinction to make, since Black Magic is to Thaumaturgy what a Bomb is to Fireworks. Sorry to be nitpicky.

I do like that idea though, cuz it literally would never snow in Ul'dah, and I doubt it'd snow in Limsa too. Hiring Thaumatuges to create snow could be a spectacle all on it's own given how cool it ends up looking half the time.

You're right, thaumaturges would make the most sense, I completely forgot about blm lore and their rarity (as rare as whms or so).

Honestly, the Thaumaturge idea is a fantastic idea, I would like to see it actually be a thing. Place Thaumaturges on high points in towns above the walk ways or on platforms for more open places like Lominsa?

On a side note it still bothers me that Ishgard/Foundation and Kugane don't get decorated.

Interestingly enough, Shirogane does get decorated though, despite Kugane not participating.

Shirogane is the Ijin district, so it's likely just a case of some foreigners bringing over the tradition to their place of residence. The rest of Kugane itself is rather conservative and unlikely to embrace foreign traditions to any great extent, beyond perhaps selling some choice seasonal fare at the markets targeted at Ijin.

Honestly, from a real world perspective the events just mark the passage of time as was said above, the major holidays of the year... but from an in-game perspective I like to think eorzea experiences seasons just like any country in the real world, and that different parts of the in-game world have their own climates. Maybe milder winters for the most part. That way it makes a little more sense to me having all these long sleeved, layered, or thick coat type glams alongside swimsuits. That's probably a boring explanation but then again it is a fantasy world in a video game so ice mages work too!

My question would be that if the main city-states never saw snow, what would be the lore reasoning behind them hiring thaumaturges to control the weather for the duration of the event?
