My vote is for Glamour Wardrobe, I dont think wardrobe is used yet anywhere.

I like helping people with their Job ideas, it's fun to help them visuallize and create the job they'd like to play most. Plus I make my own too, I'll post them eventually.

Whether they change it or not I fully intend to call it the "glamour toilet."

Agreed. Where I live, when one refers to a “commode”, they generally mean “toilet” or “bathroom”; ask for a “commode” and people will point you in the direction of the bathroom. Poor word choice, SE. Please change it. “Glamour Bureau” sounds really nice and elegant, or even “Glamour Wardrobe”, since the system is kind of like a “wardrobe” that holds glamour ensembles. Just...anything but commode.

yes, I had to chuckle to myself at this interesting "translation" Possibly they should have used something far simpler - like a wardrobe.

now I think about it, maybe "closet" was the americanization they were aiming for. Problem is, the rest of the world has a "water closet".

Uh, although I haven't heard that word used much here in Australia, the times I have heard it it was usually referring to a vanity or bureau for applying makeup (albeit one with lots of drawers and cupboards).

I think this is just one of those weird examples of language meaning one thing in one country, yet meaning something wildly different elsewhere, and something they may try to accommodate if possible but accept that it's something they can never fully safeguard against (the localization team actually spoke about this a while ago when a similar example of a seemingly innocent word used for a BTN tool turned out to be a slang word in another language for a certain part of the male anatomy). It's just something you learn to live with, language is wildly varied and constantly evolving.

I mean, us Aussies don't complain for instance whenever we see Americans saying they are 'rooting' for someone and then we quietly snigger behind their backs, such as encountering Steiner's unintentionally hilarious exclamation in FFIX ('root' as a verb in Australian English is slang for 'having sexual intercourse', where as in US English it means to cheer someone on. ). It's the same thing here.

In the UK this is not a very common used word so personally I can't see what the big fuss is really. We also have to consider that the game itself uses a lot of old English, quite rarely do we see any modern slang because it doesn't fit with the story telling. The word fits the general vocab you'd find in the world so they should keep it, but I suppose if people complain enough it might get a change...

For good or ill, the memes have already begun. Personally, the word "commode" does bring to mind certain items of hospital furniture (see Blews post). "Bureau" sounds classy, and in this case I feel the Japanese term, "Mirage Dresser" sounded good enough (well replace mirage with glamour i guess).

As an aside, but still on the subject of synonyms, "wardrobe" and "closet" have also historically had this double-meaning.

maybe it's a state thing, I've never heard of it being used for anything other than a chair you stick a pot in. little ones for toilet training, big ones for disabled/infirm. and of course the original use before sewerage was connected.

if glamour dresser is the literal jp translation, they should just go with that. Makes perfect sense without being reminded of toilets.

They should just call it a Glamour Dresser, or simply a Dresser. Would make it much easier when it comes to future questions about further development regarding it. If they stick with Commode, it might cause confusion when the NA audience starts asking questions to Yoshi about the Commode, while it's named completely different in JP.
