It's fair to question the Empire's intention here and I'm pretty sure likely pretty much everyone in the story is likely going to have the same concerns. I very seriously doubt either Doma, the Alliance, nor the Scions are going to be jumping at the chance to work with the Empire without keeping those involved on a pretty tight leash.

Though if this is the guy from the previous stinger in 4.1 there may be more to his own intentions then what will first be shown.

Regula's dying words pretty much confirmed that Emperor Varis would likely have need of the Warrior of Light, so an alliance between Garlemald and the Warrior of Light isn't too far-fetched - and should, ideally, be the end game anyway for the sake of peace, prosperity and pooling resources together. It seems clear, at least, that the Emperor does not appear inclined to crush Doma and Ala Mhigo which is a step in the right direction as far as foreign policies are concerned.

Seems like Yotsuyu doesn't even recognize her own reflection which is what I assume the scene at the beginning of the trailer is (I'm assuming that's a mirror) and probably a bit of the conflict in Doma will be what they do with her as a result of that. Though it's a bit of a cliche it does present a certain conflict. In real world crimes committed by mental ill people are treated differently because of the awareness of the consequences of actions can be a bit shaking and certain treatment can fall under cruel and unusual punishment.

Though not like our world, Hien's personality and ethics could provide some hesitation to the matter of killing or imprisoning someone who doesn't even remember what they did, regardless of how sadistic or horrible the original act was. I'm kind of interested to see where that goes exactly. Regardless of the involved cliche.

Based on my limited knowledge of the other XIV languages, that does indeed seem to be the case.

Speaking of Yotsuyu am I the only one thinking Asahi might be the boy from that Echo of young Yotsuyu? Asahi sounds much more Doman than Garlean and it's hard to make out if he has a third eye (I'm guessing no based on the limited angles we get though it's hard to tell with his hair)

I only wish that Regula's impression of him correlated better with what we've seen from him first hand. What would Regula have thought if he saw Varis discussing "sacrificing his son on the laboratory table" (to mimic the savages' Echo and twist eikons into slaves) with a white-robed Ascian? If he'd seen the pile of bodies in Aulus's lab or Inferno? Or would he, too, see Zenos as a win/win situation (aside from the loss of two territories) and put his faith in Elidibus leaving a place for mortals in Zodiark's resurrection?

Well this will be curious. Realistically just saying no to a potential peaceful solu
tion would be foolhardy and if the Garleans are willing to negociate on the method then there is potential room to find common ground. After all, tearing down Garlemald just isn't practical. I think however, more than ever, this is a bait which is going to drag us down neck deep in the political games and schemes in Garlemald. I also have a feeling that while Varis may very much desire our services in dealing with Eikons, we may still end up being pawns in his longer term plans. Varis after all is renown as a brilliant stratagist.

I also think Gosetsu's words might suggest old sins from their time under Garlean rule coming to the surface. What did Gosetsu do for the sake of peace (we know he killed many in Garlemald's name)? What did Doma allow for the sake of peace? I kind of wonder if skeletons come out of the closet. That could give Hein a hard choice. Punishing Yotsuyu whole letting others who enabled injustices would be hypocritical.

Edit: Oh my. I didn't even notice the connection with Asahi. I can see why he would be upset at hearing about the rebellion in Doma and maybe even the fact that Zenos might still be alive.

We finally get Doom Train in Sigmascape and Kefka which was a surprise for me. I love that fast equip thing Nero has. We need that tech for our characters to switch armor lore wise on the quick.

The Four lords are curious. I mean they could be primals but I am wondering... Its interesting we have a dungeon tied to a Trial this time instead of to the MSQ.

I'm kinda working on the assumption that he'll have to flee with Yotsuyu to Eorzea (so he can team up with the scions...)

    "Beware Garleans bearing gifts."

I agree, I'm treating the Garlean ambassador with a generous helping of suspicion - the arrogant smirk alone put my heckles up. I actually shouted to the screen to "Go back to Garlemald and tell Varis exactly where he can put his 'alliance'"!

Seriously though, Varis's overtures to peace are simply a means to an end: 'keep your friends close and your enemies closer'. But I guess we'll find out his true intentions either way.

Now this will be very interesting. So the Hell's Lid dungeon will indeed tie to Jade Stoa. But it will be still part of the main scenario. And we have a Garlean Samurai, totally amnesiac Yotsuyo and an elegant lala with ties to Krile(and most likely Sharlayan).

Just a thought but could Eureka be tied to the loss of the Isle of Val? I have been trying to place those screenshots of Eureka and beyond the Aetheryte being Eorzean I can't place the architecture. However we do have that dialog when we see Krile that goes along the lines of:

"While I dare not give myself wholly to hope, I will not deny that I have prayed for such a miracle ever since that fateful day."

Plus they did say we would find out more about the Isle of Val in 4.X.

Edit: Apparently the dialog for the MSQ is fairly different depending on the language. Yotsuyu however seems to generally be rather childlike. Maybe she has regressed to what she was like before she was married off.
