It never sat well with me that Ul'dah received such a disproportionate amount of story focus in comparison to Gridania and Limsa. In particular, a lot of the potential issues with Gridanian society were hand-waved and lessened during the shift from 1.0 to 2.0 whilst much of Ul'dah's problems carried over in full.

At this point, though, I'm more interested in exploring the wider world beyond Eorzea - so 4.2 revolving around the Far East excites me quite a bit.

That was probably because Gridania's 'problems' were mostly supernatural/metaphysical in form (the whole greenwrath/woodsin thing with the elementals), while Ul'dah's were mostly political (save for that whole raising the dead thing with Warburton) and thus made for much easier implementation (and thus is more believable).

It's also far easier to craft narratives around familiar concepts like political corruptions and conspiracies when it's just dealing with human spoken-led societies and not a magocracy dictated by a race of bad-tempered aetheric faeries who are nature personified.

As for 4.2, new info is up on the Lodestone - looks like some ideas from FFXI are now sneaking in. Besides Byakko being the new trial, none other than Tenzen from Chains of Promathia now has a Hydaelyn counterpart. If it turns out he has a katana with the power of a Primal inside it (*cough* Phoenix *cough cough*) I'll eat my Curtana.

Also, on the patch artwork, who is that bloke standing next to Cid? I recognize Biggs, Wedge and Jessie, but that guy with the shades I just can't place.

I'm hoping that the Hell's Lid storyline will involve Tansui in the same way that Skalla involved Arenvald and Alphinaud. The Ruby Sea is largely controlled by The Confederacy so it would make sense for them to show up if a threat is identified in the area. Catching up with memorable characters and going on an adventure with them is something I want to see more of moving forward. That I may have a crush on Tansui is completely unrelated. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I also want to see more of Magnai - and the Xaela in general - to see how they're faring. Extra points will be dished out if we see a few members of some of the tribes that did not get screen-time the first time around.

I'm cautiously optimistic about Yotsuyu's involvement in the story moving forward. I'd prefer her to be faking amnesia in a last ditch effort to try and get close to Hien. I'd prefer her to not succeed (admittedly since I'm rather biased and like Hien quite a bit) but I simply don't want her to become a shy, submissive 'waifu' for Gosetsu. There's history between them, since the implication in previous exchanges between them is that they both served Garlemald's interests in the past. Though I'll be rather annoyed if it turns out that both Fordola and Yotsuyu are getting a redemption storyline that also allows them to live afterwards when the likes of Gaius, the Warrior of Darkness and Regula did not. Especially in regards to Regula, I want to see Emperor Varis' reaction to his best friend's death.

    Relevant Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Spoilers:

Some of the major antagonists in the game are shown to be fiercely protective of each other and show genuine concern when the protagonists threaten their companions. That is what I want to see more of within FF14. It's a lot more interesting than having the antagonists cackle and treat their underlings and comrades as pawns.

Just curious, is there a transcript repository listed somewhere? I rather not scavenge 16 hours worth of cutscenes. I'm thinking it's something related to the Steppe other than Hien's coronation, there was a little bit question hanging at the end of steppe line.

I haven't actually looked through it personally, but this (EDIT: Stormblood-specific) MSQ text transcript was linked to Reddit a while back (and very recently updated for 4.1). It might be useful.

Gamerescape's FFXIV wiki and the XIVDB seem pretty comprehensive. Tried those? (I'm not actually sure if either has cutscene text, but i believe they at least have quest and journal dialogs).

They're useful but kinda hard trying to place a context when it spans several quests lines. I'm interested how the tribes relation is between Xaela and Raen. The Ruby Princess only took exile since Doma was fallen, it's possible they're coming back to the Steppe is it? Also would be nice to see how things are now between Magnai, Sadu, Cirina in 4.2.

The ancestors of the Ruby Princess have been ruling from the Violet Tides palace for generations. She's simply the current ruler of the underwater Raen. The Raen themselves were never forced from the Steppe. They've been living in various areas of Yanxia (as samurai in service to Hein's ancestors), the bottom of the Ruby Sea (they prefer isolationism), and Hingashi (ninja clans) for as long as they can remember. Generally speaking, the Raen tend to assimilate to the culture around them for the sake of harmony while the Xaela stick to their ancestral culture like glue.

XIVDB has all the quest dialogue that has no voiceovers. I still havn't found a good resource for that.

The obligatory informational NPC at Sui-no-Sato claims that the Raen were driven from their ancestral homeland, which would be the steppe (Were she referring to the tribe as a whole), though I suppose she could just be referring to their group which was taking shelter from the wars on the surface.

On a side note, I'm kind of hoping that Yugiri will eventually be allowed back into Sui-no-Sato now that the Garleans are gone, considering that the main reason she got kicked out in the first place was because they were afraid her involvement with Doma would draw the wrong sort of attention to them.
