    Unspecialized class ideas

Okay, so recently I've been reading the web novel "the king's avatar" (really really good btw). The MC starts a new profile and he goes through the game until he finds his weapon of choice. And this is where it got me thinking. The weapon he gets allows him to use low level abilities from EVERY single class in the game. It's called the many manifestations umbrella. So here is my question. Would it be possible to do this in FFXIV? My thoughts are that it can be done. Since FFXIV uses the soul stone system to unlock jobs but the classes are purely defined by the weapons, shouldn't it be possible to make a weapon that would simply allow you to use any ability available with out a soul stone? Maybe hide the quest to obtain the weapon behind a prerequisite of having all base classes at lvl 50 and then allow the person to use any lvl 50 ability and below? This is a theoretical question but I would love some feedback on this since I do think it is a really neat idea.

Honestly it wouldnt work. Jobs rely on combos and guages for their skills. being able to use anything would just mean you are pretty worthless.

Changing jobs is basically the same thing.

    Would it be possible? Yes.
Would it be Final Fantasy Related? No.
Would Yoshi even consider doing a rework on everything in the game just to accomplish this? No.

There are a few games out there that do this already, and they work, because that's how they were built from the ground up. As for Final Fantasy it would not only feel clunky, it wouldn't fit with the whole theme of classes and jobs, training yourself to be the better version later on. Your idea makes the character a jack of all trades, with literally no down side. You'd turn into a tanking Red Mage so to speak. Not to mention your hot bars would be a nightmare to manage.

Also the fact that all abilities per class/job are tailored specifically. It would seem a little weird to be able to use MCH abilities from a dagger. Are we inventing Gun-Daggers now? Or a bow that could Overpower where you grab the bow with two hands and just swing it wildly in front of you, while hilarious, it wouldn't seem practical.

    Just my 2 cents though.

    It's not that I forget, it's just that I don't care.

if & that is 1 major "if" they added a class like this & if I get the OP's idea the "class would have every ability from all class-only skills (preaty much every class from ARR lv30 & under & only the skills that didn't require a job stone) the best I could see it being is a clunkly full-trinity as it might have: 1-2 full arrgo combo options, maybe a Tank stance, near dubbles of each basic heal, at lest both Tank & range dps carbuncle, unlimited MP due to Umbral Ice, 1 if not both of MCH's turrets... & so maybe DPS moves (some of which might cause resistance down to a dmg type) it would be a litteral NIGHTMARE to use unless it has a limit on what skills it has per "Role" it decided to be for the fight along with probably a different hotbar setup per "role"

Even IF it got that far I can't even begin to decide if it should even be ALLOWED into the cross-job pool

In theory a neat idea but... it would be a dev statistical nightmare they couldn't balance fights around as easy

What some see as "distracted" is really "fathoming the unfathomable" - last words from an Ul'dahn Mercurial Chemister at the battle of Carteneau

In FF terms I think that would be adding the job Mimic. Possible yes but potential programming and design nightmare in an MMO

We called that FFXIV 1.0. You could cross-class from ANY of the choices to effectively build hybrids. It didn't work out so well. According to user surveys and developers, it wasn't enough iconic Final Fantasy and classes lacked their own identities, which we see the opposite in this version, where every class (really more job) has its own identity. Both styles have their merits, but SE is going to do what they think will make the most users happy.

    It would be theoretically possible.

It would even be mildly FF-ish, if you consider adaptive weapons such as Lightning's or Noctis's summoned weapons (or perhaps Cloud's splittable buster sword from Cerberus and Advent Children). But note that these are more components of XIII and XV, specifically. The closest multi-game weapon -- the gunblade -- is not actually adaptive, but merely multi-purpose.

But would it fit the current game? Probably not. This is the direction that 1.x was going into, whereby each weapon had abilities that come most naturally to that weapon and could be acquired therefrom but could then be used on any other. Rather than allowing for meaningful synergies between them, however, Yoshida let the open-arsenal system rot and then replaced it in entirety with 2-3 weaponskills (or, weaponskill combos, though usable only in a specific order and therefore offering no more than 2 options for one's first combo, if that) per class/job while removing cross-class weaponskills. What we have now descends from that decision to pare back options to a bare minimum and then improve from there -- divorced from virtually all sandbox elements.

The closest you're likely to come to The King's Avatar now would be a Weaponmaster job with a seemingly larger than standard toolkit size, provided it can be made with nearly the same ostensible depth as Ye Xiu's.
