I'll just add my experience with the map.

It honestly ruined exploration completely for me. Sure there are a few nice areas, and sure the areas themselves are bland. But if you walk into a dungeon, you can see the map, you are already to able to form an image of what you're about to see and it ruins completely any feeling of exploration.

Then the outside areas... the bounds are set and all the areas are known... Once you've seen one area, you've seen it all.

I think having maps already revealed was a huge mistake... I understand there's lore.. the lalafell or w/e that journeyed and made the maps... but with meteor coming to explode Eorzea, I think this is a great opportunity to revisit what I think was a huuuuge mistake.

I like the idea, i'm not against purchasable maps either. Perhaps much more detail available on purchased maps and purely discovered areas are more roughly "drawn".

Probably been said but just throwing in my approval ^^

I'd love maps that get filled in as we explore. Someone brought up the FF4DS thing and I think that it would be neat to get achievements or item rewards for doing so. Simply buying maps is really boring.

As someone mentioned, a crafting recipe book and gathering book/log were already in the works.

I see nothing wrong with buying maps, this way those who don't want to explore get their full maps and those who want can explore. Personally I prefer exploring them myself, but if they force us to do so, I can imagine lots of QQing... actually nvm, i forgot these are official forums.

I'm all for buying maps as well. I'm just against having every single map readily available to you.

The thing about buying maps is that it's mostly pointless if they work the way they do now. Especially after 2.0 everyone would theoretically just pay 10k gil or whatever to a NPC and it would just return to the same way it is now. It would be better to cut out the middleman and have everyone start out with maps again. There has to be an actual point to it, like instead of buying the map themselves you buy maps for hidden areas or other such things.

    hmm, it's all good but
    • hopefully the last 0.1% of map won't be stuck in between wood/lake/ocean that must be walking with special method in order to get it... such in the middle of the Fallgourd Lake or corner of The Mirror(somewhere in The Black Shroud)
    • I guess there is a fine difference between "I've been to Lichenweed" and "I've been to every inch of Lichenweed"
    • I still like the real world idea, once you get the map, it shows you everything, on surface.
    • maybe it should be an optional thing call my traveler map...
