    Mac Sierra FFIVX - Sound only works through headphones

    Hello

    I submitted a topic back in September with no response. It was just put in the closed forum section of this forum area. The issue still exists. My specs:

    * MacBook Pro (15-inch 2016)
    * 2.9 GHz Intel Core i7
    * 16 GB Ram
    * Radeon Pro 460 2096 MB, Intel HD Graphics 530 1536 MB
    * Running MacOS Sierra, v. 10.12.6
    * Sound running through Focusrite Liquid 56 Interface

    I have my laptop connected to a sound interface that sends the sound to my speakers. I have no issue hearing sound through my speakers with youtube, online games like WOW or even Skype calls. However, the only way to get Final Fantasy to give me sound from the game is through my headphones.

    I have found nothing in the documentation that states this game is only good with headphones. Are there issues with sound interfaces or is that NOT supported with this game? Like I said, when my system is connected, I get sound unless I open this game. I am forced to plug in my headphones.

    Just so you are aware - in the preferences within the game settings, I do assign my sound out to my interface. Not headphones, and yet it will only work through headphones.

    Please help. Is there anyone else using an interface that they use for sound out for FFIVX?

    Good Morning, and thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

    How exactly does this Focusrite device connect to your MacBook? Is it independent from the headphone jack that you are able to get working?

    As a test, can you try to run Final Fantasy XIV (with no audio), minimize it, then run something that you know will work with this device? This might indicate if XIV is completely ignoring that device or not.

    I'm sure that you've already tried this, but double-check the sound settings on your Mac while XIV is running to see if you can switch the default audio.

    Any additional information you can provide about your Mac and this device will be helpful in solving the issue. We hope we can be of assistance in helping you enjoy the exciting world of Final Fantasy XIV!

    Hi and thank you for responding. As I'm writing this, I have YouTube open and playing with sound through my system. Final Fantasy is up and video is playing but no sound. I have my interface (firewire) connected to my 27 inch display and the thunderbolt connected to my Macbook Pro. Sound is playing through everything else but FFIVX. The only solution, that I can see, is buy an 1/8 inch headphone to stereo cable to run sound from my laptop to the inputs of my interface. Honestly though, if sound can play on everything else, then why not this game. Very frustrating and I welcome any suggestions.

    Thank you for the response Clanmira,

    Just for clarity, you have your Macbook connected to your Interface via a Thunderbolt cable and the Interface is connected to your Display via Firewire, correct? I'm assuming your Interface connects to a speaker system that is independent from your display? Are there any other components to your set up? Is it to provide and image or diagram to help explain the setup?

    Is it possible to completely bypass the Interface? I understand that you may want to connect to a sound system, but is there a different way to set up everything? Maybe connect the Macbook directly to the display then connect the speakers to that same display?

    Diagram Setup

    Here is my setup. Like I said, everything else works when it comes to getting sound out of my computer through this system except this game.

    Thank you for the diagram.

    I have a few more questions. Is the iMac in your diagram an actual iMac or just a monitor. If it is another computer, are you plugging the headphones into that or the Macbook (when the sound actually works)? Are you able to plug the headphones into any of the devices (Macbook, display or interface) to get the sound to work? Or will it only work with the Macbook?
