Thanks, all. I have indeed been doing the main story quests (which lately has meant mostly running Chocobo-related errands) — I guess I need to just stick with them.

Actually the fact that I got impatient to see another city, right around when the MSQ is about to take me to another city, shows remarkably good (or lucky) game design!

Thanks for the other newbie tips, too. I just last night realized that I'd been neglecting the Conjurer quests, and started catching up on those. And I'll be sure to check out the Hall of the Novice when I eventually make it to Limsa Lominsa (which sounds like it may be soon).

[EDIT: And with this post, I apparently have hit my limit of 3/day, making it impossible for me to post in the "Find a Friend" thread today... and making me somewhat regret being nice enough to say thanks. Silly forum post restrictions, mumble grumble...]

[EDIT 2: No, actually, I've only posted twice since December 6th, so I don't know what the heck is going on with being unable to post in that other thread. But this is off-topic, so I'll shut up now.]

[EDIT 3: And now it works. Whatever, I give up trying to understand it. ]

I'm pretty sure, hall of novice is something that you can find in all big cities Adventurer's Guild and in front of some Dungeon..
Not sure if the beginning is at certain location, can't remember..

The Hall of the Novice (Beginner's Hall) should be accessible from any of the 'Smith' npcs with the big green sproutling icon which can be found in the Adventurer's Guilds in each city (the Gridanian one is positioned between the Inn counter and the repair npc).

As for questing, definitely keep up to date with the class quests given by the Guildmaster for your class's Guild (E-Sumi Yan at Stillglade Fane for CNJ), as it not only unlocks the Armoury System after completing the level 10 one (which allows you to change classes), eventually after completing the final class quest at level 30 you will be able to then unlock the Job upgrade for that class (in your case, WHM for CNJ). The Job upgrade also requires you to be past a specific level 20 main scenario quest though so once again keep plugging through the main scenario, it does get better despite dragging on sometimes (and it does draaaaag a bit).

Also in regards to the posting restrictions, that is connected to your current in game level, as you gain higher levels your posting restrictions are reduced although sadly they are not completely removed. This thread explains the restrictions and what levels they are relaxed.

Either way, don't get discouraged! Also, Welcome to Eorzea!

The training quests from the Hall of the Novice are available from any of the 'Smith' NPCs. In addition to the Adventurer's Guilds they can also be found in front of each of the early dungeons.
The actual physical hall is located outside Aleport in Western La Noscea though, and within you can find some additional helpful information for beginners in addition to doing the training quests.
