Newer to PvP, want to play but player base is non-existent, what do I do?

So it has been about a week since 4.1 dropped, and PvP still has unbearable wait times to join. I really want to try to place for the armor, even though I'm really new to PvP, but I also don't understand if doing just the training matches will help me get there. 8v8 training matches come up relatively quick but they're really hard to follow along with and I would much rather play 4v4. What are my options?

Mhm... I'm inclined to say you can give up the dream on the armor for now, because ranked is probably dead until next season, doubly so with the stricter matchmaking they recently introduced. You can try queuing as healer to get into matches faster, since they're the least popular role, but that aside, you're SOL in that regard.

If you want to learn for next season, 4vs4 training might pop. I haven't bothered trying myself, but people were very vocal about wanting it added, so your chances might be better there. It is the go-to place to train for ranked, as 8vs8 is the "shits and giggles" version of Feast - you can tell by the fact you can take a buddy along and the role restriction is off, making games terribly imbalanced (since roles are imbalanced).

It explains culling time, boxes, the heavy medal mechanics etc. A great way to start, if you don't really get what's going on.

If that doesn't work, all you've got left is to set up custom matches for 4vs4. There's PvP discords out there, maybe you'll find someone willing there. Since you're on goblin, there's also quite the vocal member on that server that might be able to help you get into the community.

As a new player I don't know if I could condone queuing for 4v4 training either. I'm currently unranked and only have 80'ish 8v8 games, and all of the 4v4 training matches I've done are inundated with top 100 players. You're literally getting thrown to the wolves (I recognized the pun after I wrote it down

I mean I guess you get immediate experience about what high level play is like and if you're really determined to learn and get better then that's not necessarily a bad thing, but if you're getting your feet wet and you get discouraged or tilted, just stick with 8v8 or Frontlines until next season.

Thanks for the info everyone, I appreciate it. I guess I will just have to give up on the armor, cause idk how Id ever be able to rank into the top 100 at this point lol. I will probably just stick with frontlines for now, and hope next season has as cool of armor and weps, and that square includes a degradation to pvp ranks after inactivity in them soon XD

They release the same top 100 prizes for two seasons with minor differences. Get the practice now, and you can aim for the armour next season.

Came back to FFXIV after 1 year out and PVP still sucks.... =(
Really disappointed to see that nothing good was done to the pvp community...
Still same problems of 1 year ago... Long queue time, no rewards, bots... Why square wants the pvp in this game to be so lame ?

Aside from the bots most of that isn't really true. We didn't really have many bots a year ago either.

Rewards are there if you want em. FL is free queue now, Usually instant pop for FL /8v8, You missed your chance for 4v4 instant pops by a couple weeks. We even have cross server custom matches now if you want.

It's not all sunshine and rainbows but its definitely not the same as a year ago. In fact the entire pvp system itself was changed. Better or worse is your opinion though.
