Not to necro a thread, but this tier has really made me wish we had a knockback prevention more than ever. We can't even rely on cover anymore since that's now taken by the off tank.

If they did some sort of knockback preventing for phys ranged, not saying if they should or shouldn't but if they choose to at some point, it'd be awesome if it was a grappling hook with a rope attached.
Since Bards and Mch both rely on firing off shots, like they could fire off a grapple which could make a animated line to the boss or whatever they were trying to hold onto. If people wanna make it a crappy anti-knockback just because bards/mch have more mobility, you could make the grapple thrash the bard/mch about back and forth like they were blowing in the wind and have it still blow them back but just not off the edge. That way, they still lose dps time but it would prevent instant death to falling off. Plus, it's kind of the meme of the brd/mch running around all goofy, so it would be hilarious to see one hanging onto a rope for dear life as they blow away.
I think that might give both sides of this discussion what they want.

Remember when Repelling Shot and Blank did damage?

wut
WAR has Inner Release and Holmgang, and DRK has Plunge (not really preventative but counterable)
I don't think a tank should be taking cover if only for knockback prevention.

In OS5, OS7, and OS8. (7 if the healers can tolerate a dps having burn), it's more optimal to cover the warrior so they don't have to prematurely use those skills and it provides them with more melee uptime. Range dps don't lose much from a knockback, warriors lose uptime and or have to use their skills prematurely if not covered. Thus it's more raid wide dps gain to cover the warrior over the range.

Repelling shot overwrites knockback. MCH is the only class that has to suck it up at this point. If I were to be honest, one gcd (or having a melee save an ogcd) is not going to make a difference. If the change went through, the only difference that it would make is that bosses would just go through immunity instead. I don't know about you all, but I don't think SE deciding what counts for immunity and what isn't and going 'Tee hee it's a secret' is pretty annoying. The only other thing is that it's something that would only affect people who have lowish latency. If it is anywhere remotely mid-high, the feature will do nothing for bards/machinists (a repelling shot for machinists is pretty much the only thing being asked for aside from outright immunity, which I'll say no forever to). They have everything else, why give them the only thing they don't have, let alone need.

You're right they don't need it. That's why it's called a QoL. We could sit here and argue all day that they don't need it but that doesn't make it any less of a QoL. Here's a good situation where they might need one. OS5, your teammates killed all the box ghosts. Where will the range dps go to avoid knockback? No where. They're dead. Warrior got covered out of habit for their dps, range dies. Nothing they could do. Not their fault. Everyone else? Alive with their own knockback prevention skills minus DRK.

No, QoL is something that's convenient but has no definite gameplay effects. Resetting cooldowns on a wipe was a QoL addition. Giving a job the ability to completely ignore a mechanic is not. You're right they don't need it. hat's why it's called a QoL. Which is the mechanic. When you mess up a mechanic you pay for it.

I don't see a book anywhere that considers what constitutes what can and cannot be a QoL change.
As for your statement about completely ignoring a mechanic I feel is rather moot when all but 3 jobs in the game have some means of ignoring a mechanic which just simply inconvenients those playing those jobs.
