Potential Unused Passage in Southern Thanalan?

There appears to be this dirt road covered in sand at the very southern tip of Southern Thanalan that has been here ever since 2.0. that drops into the abyss. Looking outward, all you can see is endless dessert as far as the eye can see. Is this a potential passage to lead to a new location or dungeon someday that just hasn't been touched upon yet? It's bugging me to know.

It’s probably a passage to pagith’an. there are parts of thanalan and in ARR in general we haven’t visited yet, just like we’re still missing East shroud (dunno if I count the pvp map) and parts of vylbrand

Remember that the maps were cut drastically in the transition from 1.0 to 2.0 for which there were many roads, entrances and zones simply "leftover" and that probably will not have any use or be used much later (as Castrum Oriens)

I thought we had East Shroud, do you mean West Shroud?

I hadn't realized that the PvP map was in West Shroud. I didn't pay attention to that.

We have East Shroud, it's West Shroud we don't have. Looking at the map, that area could be Carteneau.

I'm pretty sure that's just the rest of the Sagolii desert. In 1.0, I think it wasn't even accessible and you can only see it from a distance.

There are tons of gates and paths that lead to no where like this in most the ARR zones that have been there since relaunch. There is another one in south thanalan too.
