I've never really taken PVP seriously in MMO's... I never did PVP in my 750 days of FFXI, and I only spammed BGs and Arena in WoW for decent entry level raid gear.
Over the last few years I've grown to be a much more competitive gamer and having a well balanced PVP system actually does interest me. It won't break the game for me if it's anything like FFXI's PVP but if it does have a proper ranking system and a proper battle system it would be fun to actually compete for the top rank.
14's current system wouldn't be able to handle PVP but with the new engine perhaps something fun, addicting, and competitive can spawn from 2.0 that can give me something to work towards that requires me to outsmart and outlast other top PVP players.
I've watched a lot of WoW Arena and people actually go in not for the gear, the titles, or the rewards, but just to win. Like a game of chess. This kind of stuff always intrigued me, and it's highly entertaining to not only take part in, but watch (opportunity for a larger community).
There are a lot of things that go into proper PVP and I know a lot of old FFXI fans probably don't care too much for direct PVP and write it off as a joke. When done right, PVP can be more fun then spamming raids for gear to spam more raids.
I just wanted to toss up ideas on what we want to see and what we don't want to see in FF14's PVP.
-Fast Queues
-Ranking system based on wins.
-Stat counter? Keeps track of kills, deaths, wins, losses, most used abilities. Which maps you perform best on.
-Variety in types of PVP. Capture flag, territory, battlegrounds, arena.
-Variety of assymetical maps. Maps that have 2 similar starting bases, but everything in between is customizable.
-PVP currency to purchase PVP items
As well, Titles and Achievements which I'm sure they'll give to every miniscule thing you can do in FF14.
How they are going to work out the balance between the classes I have no clue. I'm assuming that's the biggest problem they'll need to find a solution to.
Any good ideas for 2.0's PVP or should they just scratch it and focus more on other aspects of the game, assuming the majority of the fan base don't enjoy pvp?
