VO work on the main story line missions. Fine.
But keep the CS and VO work to a minimum when in grp settings. In FFXI I was always rushed (as were others) to get through the CS to get onto the content at hand.
In SWTOR it's even more rushed when repeating the same dungeon for the tenth time. But you have to go through all the "choose your path" conversations each and everytime. It becomes a skipfest. It's a lot of time, effort and money for a pay off that is only good once.

Save it for the big story. And the lengthy CS and VO for those times when the player can experience it solo so that we aren't rushed and can actually enjoy what you have created.

I'm afraid that SE will look torward what bioware did with starwars, and think thats something they need for FFXIV. I'm here to say that it's not.
You will find yourself skipping though it just as much as you skip though the quest text. the novelty wears of FAST!

Eh, I highly doubt they'll look towards SWTOR, it's not a horrendous game but "Voice acting for everything" is a novelty that wears off quick, though I'm sure it pleases the people who hate reading quests. People try to rush through dialog even on SWTOR, so it's really not that big of a deal in the long run.

You can't change that in the control panel? That's odd.

Exactly! I mean, not to bring SWTOR back to the table for the 100th time, but the fact that it's fully voiced is one of the main marketing ploys which to me is completely ridicolous. Content, fun and all the other things that are attractive in a videogame should be your selling point, not the fact that you had the money to pay some people to read some lines of dialogue.

No idea, it only lists characters made during the time you had to pick one in order to log in and I haven't touched the character panel since lol.

Well being a WoW clone in space, it has little going for it -- Like Rift is a WoW clone with inter-dimensional enemies, gotta market that somehow.

There's a specific reason for this. One of the goals of the game was to attempt to make the player feel like they are a character in one of the movies. This is done through fully voiced cutscenes, cinenatic landscapes, thematic music directly taken from the movies, and story-driven game play.

No one will dispute that content should be a priority, but how that content is presented takes the game to another level. Honestly, people have come to expect that level of quality story telling from SE. FFXIV's opening cutscene was one of my favorite moments in the game.

I feel that any cutscenes in the game should be voiced so that it's not like watching an old silent movie or a TV stuck on mute. Additionally, I think most NPCs you interact with should audibly respond with a short greeting or bits of flavor ("Hello", "Your gil is good here", "Twelve bless you"). The point is to make you feel like you are in a living, breathing world. Voice acting, both in big and small bits, help to do that.

I wouldn't mind the voices, but storyline, and lots of it is an absolute MUST.

I might be the minority here but i'd absolutely love it if everything was voice acted, and I mean everything!

I agree with this, just make voice acting only part of the main stories.

I would like the voice acting limited to the large quests and Main storyline. I would like to see the Grand Company quests have some VA. It just adds a lot more power to the story, in my opinion, even over the voices I imagine them to have in my head.

For a good example of this, go play Corpse Party.

Voice acting would definitely give more of a .. lively feel to this game. They don't have to go over the top with it but why skip out on it entirely?

I like how people on this forum are suddenly experts on everything... lol
