To be honest, I would also like the option to know that you have been blacklisted on the other end so I'm not sitting there sending messages all day with no idea the person even blocked me at all.

You may not have any say on if they join someone else's created pf, but blacklist can prevent them from joining ones you make. May not be of much help in terms of the whole blacklist system but it can come in handy. Earlier in the year there was a healer trolling every single Susano Extreme pf they could jump in and causing wipes by constantly aiming the arena mechanics that targeted them to screw everyone else over, such as the parted seas stack aimed at the last second to make everyone and tanks suffer, not to mention the clouds. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me three times, blacklist you to keep you out of mine.

The whole point of the blacklist is to NOT see what they are saying. It's working as intended. The point is to stop the drama/rmt messages on YOUR screen. If you wish to continue the drama and see what they are saying or keep getting rmt tells/says/whatever, don't blacklist them. If they don't want to see what you're saying they will blacklist you.
If a tank is afking every fight then report them.
If blacklisting is only for chat purposes then there should be a pop up confirmation screen or something that explains that. I was also under the impression that it would prevent them from being matched with you in the duty finder at least.
Yeah, it's deceptive. There isn't anything in game that explains or describes what it does (which is nothing useful).

If the blacklist blocked players from being in the same instance as those who had originally blacklisted them, well, there are some players out there with full blacklists. That leads to potential issues down the line with regards to DF matching, which could lead to longer queues. So I can see why the blacklist is not designed to prevent random matching.

Those who blacklist a lot or get blacklisted a lot are in the minority, surely, so I don't believe it would have a noticeable impact on queue times for most people. I would rather wait a few seconds or minutes longer for someone not on my blacklist than to run any content with people on my blacklist. If the blacklist blocked players from being in the same instance as those who had originally blacklisted them, well, there are some players out there with full blacklists. Would it be fair for those who get blacklisted for silly reasons though? If it's 8 person content, everyone who has been blocked by any of those 8 people will be prevented from participation. In Rabanastre that's everyone blocked by any of the 24 participants...Those who blacklist a lot or get blacklisted a lot are in the minority, surely, so I don't believe it would have a noticeable impact on queue times for most people. I know I temporarily blacklist people just because I don't want them joining my PF groups. Doesn't mean I'd like to banish them from any DF runs or other people's PF I may be joining.
Man, I feel like a complete idiot now as until I've read this thread I was sure that this is exactly what Blacklist does - prevent blacklisted players to enter the same DR/PF with me.
Sad times as I used Blacklist solely for this purpose.
Well, thanks people in this thread for clearing things for me...

I rather not see them on screen
